4 Wheel Drive = Check engine light

Hi All, I tried searching for the topic but to no avail, so I am posting this question to you guys.

I was on a parking on a slippery hill and I was engaged in the 4 wheel drive. As I was backing up into the parking space in REVERSE and I then switch to D to move forward. But as I was switch to D and press the gas petal, I was rolling backwards as if the gears was not locked in. The engine would rev but would not move forward. I was able to shut off my engine and try the same sequence, ie going back to D, moving to a different 4x4 gear. But finally, I was able to move forward by some how switching to a different 4 wheel drive gear, however, the check engine light was on and the vsc light is on. So ,my question to you guys is, do you think I screwed up my 4 wheel drive clutch when it mad noises as I tried to switch gears?

Re: 4 Wheel Drive = Check engine light

Every time you switch to Full time 4WD and back, you have to wait a few seconds 8-10 seconds for the gears to properly engage or disengage before revving your gas pedal. I read it on the manual and I have a 6MT. I don't know if it is the same with the Auto FJ.

In the automatic, you have to shift to neutral to get into four low or out of four low.
