4X2 capabalities off-road

I have searched and read through some threads. I have also searched online via google. I gather pretty much that the 2wd is ok for limited use off road.

Mine arrives on the 15th. It has the locking dif, and of course the lsd. I do not plan on going off road ever (hence the 4x2). At least not on purpose. My question is; what can it handle off road wise? If a situation came about that called for off road travel, what could she handle? Will the locking diff help me in situations that most other 2wd truck/suvs could not handle? Are there any good threads out there that in a way explain the limits of what our 4x2s can handle? I know the suspension is not as beefy as the 4x4. Any and all responses welcomed and wanted.

It's way more capable than most other 2wds with the rear locker. Just don't go getting into deep mud or fjording water.

Ah cool. What color will yours be and where are you getting it? I got mine at Vandergriff and it was a horrible experience.

Re: 4X2 capabalities off-road

Well, I have driven a 2wd pickup for over a decade... and while I have learned how to drive it off road, through mud and snow, sand, up hills and down hills (can't keep me out of mud... become an expert on recovery...lol) I wished I would have had rear diff locks (it will make a HUGE difference) to get me out of a few jams.

However, you must learn and use good judgement. You will be able to keep up in some parts with the 4wd, you will learn soon enough where the limits are.

Just ask my brother-in-law about the 6' snow drift I plowed into last winter while ice-fishin', and how much fun we had diggin' her out! I wish I would have had 4wd then (or diff locks...)

Enjoy your adventure!

Re: 4X2 capabalities off-road

On a steep incline the rear wheels will bury themselves instead of the front pulling the truck up.

Flat stuff is okay.

Just don't go anywhere low range would be handy.

Or ATRAC.

Silver, and its coming from Metroplex Toyota. Not one complaint so far. Helpfull all the way. Got a quote on my trade in within 15 minutes of pulling up.

I saw Vandergriff has a dealer right near where I live. What happened with them?

Thanks for the replies on 4x2 and dif lock. It gives me a better idea of how to gauge situations I know will come up.

Re: 4X2 capabalities off-road

2 and 4wd have basically the same suspension. Mine has the locker and I have yet to use it. It seems to take me anywhere through sand that I want to go. I wouldn't have much faith in the street tires when it comes to mud.
They have approximately 300 lbs. less unsprung weight. I would give it a thumbs up, overall.
