SuhWEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been awaiting the arrival of my FJC since mid-October. Patiently, oh-so-patiently. I wanted a 6-MT, and a black-cherry C-package 6-MT. I could have shortened the wait CONSIDERABLY by getting an automatic black-cherry C-package instead. I thought about it, almost caved (twice), then held to my guns despite the longgggg wait.

Today, I took deliver of my FJC, and it's exactly what I wanted ... C-package, black-cherry, 6-MT.

I ADORE IT!!!!!!!!!!

I've been driving a VW Golf (5-MT) for the last 10 years and, after reading many of the manual tranny threads in these forums, I expected to have some trouble adjusting to the short 1st gear, to the clunkiness I read about, etc, etc. I have no idea what that reference was about (the clunkiness) because MAN-OH-MAN the 6-MT in my rig is smooth-as-butter, and gorgeous to drive. I love it. I don't even find 1st that short - I mean, sure it's short, but it's a 6-speed truck so it's just what I'd have expected. The thing is, I got in it, pulled away (to go gas it up with the Toyota salesguy; they filled it up for me before I left the lot), and not even the first pull-away was rough. It just fits me like a glove and vice versa ... by the time I got home (I live an hour away), I felt as though I'd been driving it my whole life!

On the highway, it was really nice, and I liked the cruise control, and the intuitive placement of all the switches and levers (had to use them all - it was night highway driving in a bit of snow, so had to use lights/brights, cruise control, clean the windshield a few times, etc.).

At first the seat felt uncomfortable, but even that was intuitive figuring out the levers for adjusting the seat to a good ergonomic fit (I'm a 5'7" proportionate height-to-weight woman) while driving along the highway. The second half of the drive was much more comfie.

I had a remote starter installed (I live in northern Ontario = cold = want to remote start when it's -20 to warm up before I get in!), and that worked like a charm, too.

In short, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this truck!! I can't say enough about it. And I'm SOOOOO GLAD I got the manual transmission, which I completely love, too (I've always, always driven MT's and am so glad I didn't sell out just to get my wheels a bit sooner). Oh, and I also will add that when I got home, it tackled my snowdrift-filled semi-long, narrow driveway as though it was a bare, summertime day. Just pulled in and, voila, I was at the garage. Couldn't believe it after the fuss my VW made pulling out that morning (although, truth be told, my dearly departed VW DID plow a path out for the sweet truck - LOL - and that VW got me out of more than a few snowdrifts in her day!!).

THIS TRUCK ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. planned mods include front grill with foglights (a.k.a. moose-catcher! LOL), possibly a skidplate but only if I can find someone to powdercoat it black cuz I love the pics I saw of the other black-cherry FJC on here with that mod, already have an armrest (love it!), maybe satellite radio, and thinking about a spare tire cover.

Planned mods: moose-catcher (LOL: front bumper with full bull bar & lights), black skidplates
(probably Budbuilts), Gobi Stealth rack & lights, suspension with lift (either Allpro or Donahoe),
better tires with wheels (probably Destination A/T's), DIRT 'n' FUN!!
Jezebel, my 5MT 1997 VW Golf, was laid to rest.
Tried 'n' true MT girl - LOVING my FJC!!

Re: SuhWEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on the new ride, and welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you like the FJ a little bit. You're not alone. This thing inspires people for many reasons.

...now get her dirty. ....and then make her sparkle. ....and then get her dirty. ...and then..

Re: SuhWEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on the ride. Nice color choice, too.

Don't worry about powdercoating the skid plate. I simply went to Walmart and sprayed mine with two cans of black rubberized undercoating....total price....$6. If/when it gets scratched, I can spray it again.
