Couple of questions (AC and battery)

Hey guys, I'm curious about a couple things. Most better is have a date sticker or stamp - I can't find one o PM the Panasonic unit. It doesn't look 5 years old (mine's an '07), but you never know.

Also, the AC. I suppose some might like this feature, but it drives me nuts. When I'm just using the vents and say I turn up the heat in the morning. When I turn the temp knob down to the coldest setting, the AC comes on. I'm assuming it's intentional? Is there a way to stop it?

Thanks!
Scott

Re: Couple of questions (AC and battery)

Don't know the answer to your battery question.

The AC behavior is normal. I'm used to turning it all the way down, then one click up, then hitting the AC button to turn it back off. I remember reading someone fix the dial to where it was more difficult to turn all the way, but I'd have no idea where that thread is.

If it's the original Panasonic Battery, it doesn't have a date code on it but is likely less than 1 month older than the build date of your vehicle.

You can remove the caps and add distilled water and it will last a little longer. On my '07, the cell closest to the radiator uses the most water.

As far as the A/C goes, if you move the knob to the max. cold position the A/C compressor comes on automatically even though you don't want it to. Poor design by Toyota (very inefficient) but most of us are used to it and make sure we only go 1 position before full cold to get ambient air temp.

Thanks Dew. I have a rule to replace batteries at 5 years, working or not. Looks like it's original then. Bummer.
