Brand new TT revs on its own?

Hey Guys,

My 2012 TT revs ups on its own when I let off the gas completely, and then push in the clutch. Some times it revs up about 500 rpm, other times it will bounce between 1500 and 2750 all on its own with the clutch pushed in. It doesn't seem to matter if the transmission is in gear or if it is in neutral. Its been in the mid teens here lately, and though I don't know if it is related or not, this problem became worse when it got cold. FJ has about 907 miles on it.

Thanks,

Joe

Mine did the same thing at the beginning and went away with out doing anything to it. Once I had a talk with the tech and he said the computer is trying to learn your driving behavior. It is an adaptive system and after a while that's exactly what happened and also in the morning when it is very cold it runs at higher rpm which is normal.

Mine Idles around 900-750 rpm when normal. While driving, if I coast in neutral or in between gear changes it will be around 1200 rpm. I don't know why.

When it is in the teens outside, it will idle at 1500 and drop down to the above when warmed up.

Its a 2007 so could be different in the 2010 plus years

Sounds like a combination of the cold and what hersog stated. See if it subsides when the temp rises and or a few more miles are on it. Otherwise bring it to the dealer and see if their computer can see if anything is wrong.

Re: Brand new TT revs on its own?

I had a Nissan PU that did that. After reading the section in the repair manual on emisions it stated that the computer did this to reduce NOX, a smog thing.

Re: Brand new TT revs on its own?

Ok the computer learning makes perfect sense. I had the battery disconnected for a long time while installing the HID headlights yesterday. I drove the FJ about a hundred miles today and now it is doing what Landdozer said:

"Mine Idles around 900-750 rpm when normal. While driving, if I coast in neutral or in between gear changes it will be around 1200 rpm. I don't know why."

When I push the clutch in it revs up about 300, then drops down to about 1500 and holds there. I'm assuming its doing the 1500 thing because its cold.

So my next question is, does anyone make an aftermarket tuner that will keep it from revving up 300 rpm when I push in the clutch? That is annoying and the exact opposite of what I need it to do when i'm up shifting under normal acceleration. Its forcing the transmission to synchronize the speed if I shift quickly (hard on the clutch), or makes me wait a long time for the revs to drop between shifts.

Re: Brand new TT revs on its own?

I agree with Hersog. ECU seems to be the issue and its adaptive programming. You'll often see odd idling when installing an aftermarket piggy back ECU for the first drive or two.

Keep an eye on it and see if it goes away with time would be my recommendation.

In regards to aftermarket ECUs APR and URD both make piggybacks and run around $1500. Don't know if it will solve your problem tho.
