Options fulfilment question.......?

It is my understanding (and perhaps I am wrong) that the FJ's come out of the factory with the Convenience Package, and either Upgrade Package #1 or UP 2 on them. That's it, aside from the different colors.

Then, at the Port of Entry, Toyota (or a vendor) have some sort of facility that adds on the major options like Security Systems, Side Air Bags, etc....

And, then, other options like perhaps Floor Mats, etc... are installed at the local dealer.

O.K.... that's an interesting way of doing it, but my question is......

When they install the VIP security system or the airbags at the port, is it just a plug-in & play scenario? I can't imagine them running any wires thru the chassis and splicing into the wiring harness. What about the sensors for the side air bags, etc...?

The reason I ask. The dealer called today and said he could divert an FJ that has the correct color and options EXCEPT the Subwoofer so that I could get my FJ LOTS sooner than late March.

I still want the Subwoofer and wondered how difficult it would be for me (or the dealer to add it on). There's a switch on the dash, the subwoofer itself and the wiring. I was wondering if I just need to add the switch and the subwoofer and then just plug them both into the existing wiring harness? (or if there are different wiring harness for each option).

Sorry for the long question.

Re: Options fulfilment question.......?

The sub is also plug and play. All FJ's are pre-wired for it. However, after having one (and subsequently selling it) I would tell you that it is not woth it. Go aftermarket or be prepared to replace the 8" woofer with a kicker or JL sub for it to actually function like a sub. Also, be prepared to pay anywhere from $250 to over $400 for the sub, switch and panel combo. That's the going prices here and on e-bay.

Good luck with your purchase!!
