Hard steering

Help! Just bought a 2013 FJ,auto tran.3300 miles. At slow speeds the steering is impossible, very hard to turn, parking a nightmare. Any ideas? Fluid level good.

Re: Hard steering

I'm shocked at 3300 miles you have any issue.

Are you sure you're not in 4WD? That would explain the hard steering, especially if it's grabbing and making the tires chirp when turning..

If it's not in 4WD, are there any noises or whines when turning the steering wheel?

Re: Hard steering

I would think you popped it into 4WD by accident, check your shifter and make sure that it is pushed all the way forwards in 2WD. Read post #2 here

Re: Hard steering

Thanks for the input. In the end it was a failure of the power steering pump!? Crazy, but under warranty

Re: Hard steering

Wow! That is a pretty early failure and thankfully in warranty.

Re: Hard steering

I thought an early failure was only possible with a German or USA made vehicle
