FJ OWNERS! What dont you like about your FJ?

I am a prospective buyer and I love the FJ, the look, the utility, that its a Toyota. However, I know that no vehicle is perfect (I already know that it wont fit in my garage) so I was wondering if you owners would pitch in and let me know some of the things that bug you about the FJ, things that a prospective buyer like me should be aware of.

P.S. I am test driving one the first week of April, what should I look/watch out for?

I am also 6'5", will that be a problem in the FJ?

The only thing that bugs me is the fender flares. They have no backing to them so mud gets stuck in them from the front all the way to the back.

Re: FJ OWNERS! What dont you like about your FJ?

I absolutely love my FJ. I got it in April 2006. The only thing that bothers me is filling the gas tank. I cannot use the lock open on the gas pump, gotta stand and hold it at about 1/2 to 3/4 open. Must be the angle cause it shuts off. Truely, that is it, and really that is nothing. Otherwise, I am loving every time I get in to drive it. I don't think you'll have any problems at 6'5". The dealer asked me if a really big guy could sit in mine right before I drove it off the lot as my own (I got their only one at that time) to "try it on" and he fit nicely.

Re: FJ OWNERS! What dont you like about your FJ?

I honestly like everything about it. Once you drive one, it's hard to go home without it--it's a sick obsession!

There isn't anything that I can point to and say "this needs improvement," (so far) Toyota seems to have done pretty well with the FJ.

Even the rear visibility is fine for me--I'm 6' and can clearly see out the back and use the mirrors properly, so I'd imagine that being 6'5" you'll have no problem either.

My wife on the other hand is only 5' 5" and she is intimidated by the FJ in reverse (although, she has a hard time in reverse to begin with--our Jeep Cherokee has had the rear window / door replaced a time or two).

This is kind of a personal thing, and it can be fixed, but it's the bunny rabbit stance. They should have made it even from the factory. Other than that, it's the best SUV I've ever driven.

Re: FJ OWNERS! What dont you like about your FJ?

I agree with the person about filling the gas tank and it must be the angle. I am glad you mentioned it. I just figured it was me, now I feel like less of an idiot. I wish the passenger seat came with an armrest. It just bothers me for some reason it is not there. These are really nothing, but the thread is what don't you like.

By the way I am a big boy at 6'5" 248lbs and I am comfortable in my FJ.

The windshields pit and crack real easy.

I hate the archaic front seat adjustments! I feel like I'm back in my 87 4rnr. It would probably only cost $50 bucks more to put in electric adjustable seats.

Re: FJ OWNERS! What dont you like about your FJ?

These things are great right out of the box.

Only issues for me windshield quality is lacking. There are several threads on this subject.

The visability is somewhat limited, but as others have stated, as you learn to adjust the mirrors correctly you can get around any issues.

Gas milage isn't the best, but I didn't buy a prius so it was expected.

These things are addictive. I've added the TRD cold air intake, the short throw shifter, (a must for me on the MT6) and I'm waiting for the summer when I'm upgrading shocks and tires.

Hope that helps,
~C
