Scion tC to FJ?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and was hoping for some great feedback and opinions.
Currently I drive a 2005 Scion tC that has been heavily modified to my tastes!

The new FJ cruisers have caught my eye ever since their new release. Now here's what I'm thinking...

Driving a tC is a lot of fun and all and I love my car! But I'm getting to the point where I feel like I need a more mature car, if you know what I mean? I am simply tired of everyone trying to race my tC(which is not fast lol) I can't just drive from one destination to another without everyone and their mom reving at me or messing with me on the road. I try to ignor them the best I can cause I realize my tC is by no means a race car!

My dad works for Toyota and he just got a 2007 Tundra. Very nice truck. I wanted one but they are to much for me! My dad wants me to get an FJ cause he thinks they will be worth something down the road. I am truely thinking about trading for a vodoo blue FJ 4X4 automatice or maybe silver I dunno but it must be 4X4! I guess what I'm looking for in my post is for some feedback on the FJ. I have test drove one and they ride so smooth. Makes my current vehicle feel rough as hell. I already know I can get a good trade in buck for my car but I am thinking the FJ might be a more long term investment? Aren't they just making it for three years or so? Will their value go up several several years after they stop production?

Also, what do you guys/gals like and dislike about your FJ? I'm trying to figure out if the FJ is the right way to go... Also, what kind of quality is put behind the FJ? I know it's a toyota but my tC feels almost like very low quality. Rattles and shakes everywhere lol

Thanks guys/gals, just looking for some feedback and wanting to talk to some actual owners!

Re: Scion tC to FJ?

Welcome aboard. I'm in Houston too...well, actually, in Sugar Land. I just recently bought a Voodoo blue for the wife and you are right on about how comfortable it is. Makes my full size Nissan Titan feel like it's riding on bricks. The only big negative I can say about it is rear/side visibility. In fact, the first mod I did were blind spot mirrors. With that mod, rear/side visibility is about on par with my full size truck which isn't saying a whole lot about the FJ. It might take some getting use to for you moving from the compact tC. The other thing to consider for you is height clearance. For example, I'm almost certain with the factory roof rack, you will not be able to clear the bottom parking garage at the Galleria. You'll have difficulties in some downtown parking garages as well, maybe even your house garage.

There are many positives about the FJ. My personal favorite are the excellent brakes. With 60-0 in 123ft, it rivals some real sports cars. Stopping the FJ feels extremely confident. Of course, my wife would say her most favorite would be the styling.

Re: Scion tC to FJ?

"Bluechulappa" I'm in a similar situation regarding the FJ. Funny my dad has a Tundra and he loves it

The most recent cars I've owned have been quite small. I wanted to get something a bit bigger. I was set on the honda ridgeline, but gave the fj a test. I know they are completely different vehicles, but both have great attributes. The fj was a lot more fun to drive , but can be argued to be less practical (devils advocate situation)

Regarding your questions, after test driving the fj on several occasions, it seems to be built like a tank. I know wanted responses from actual owners, but it seems like a very well put together vehicle.

You may want to check out my thread as well, some good stuff posted.
The title is as follows: "Thinking of a purchasing a FJ, got a few questions?? "

Re: Scion tC to FJ?

i owned a xB and tC and i think the fj is much better car, but it is also very different. if you need the extra room then go the fj, but if it's just something you want then make sure you test drive a few of them

Re: Scion tC to FJ?

i should qualify my statement about more room in the xb.

There is more room lengthwise in the front and especially back seat, but width wise, fj beats it.

Trunk too, FJ wins in room. I jsut like the legroom in the xb

Re: Scion tC to FJ?

I had a 05 xB and loved it, have a boat so I need something to tow it. went to a titan 4x4 and it had to be bought back two many problems. I love my fj, it's qunique like the xB everyone asks what it is.
sounds like you have your Tc lowered with small side wall tires the ride in the fj will be much more comfortable to drive and has plenty of power (IMHO)
More room in the fj would be good and better visability out the windows would help.
