Trouble sourcing strong tow strap & folding shovel

I've looked around several auto parts stores and hardware stores in an effort to find these two items (10,000+ lb tow strap & folding shovel). The strongest strap I've run across was 5,000 lbs. Any suggestions for a good place to source these? I'd like to find them locally so I'll have them for this weekend, but I'd be willing to order if the price is right.

Re: Trouble sourcing strong tow strap & folding shovel

I saw some recovery straps at my local wal-mart that were rated to 17,500 pounds.

I can't imagine an auto parts store not having some too. I'd ask someone at the parts store where to look if they didn't actually have any...

You could always call up a place that supplies chain and rigging, tell what you want and the use they should be able to help you out.

Tell me about it. Went to an Advance Auto Parts and two Carquests. Nothing stronger than 5,000lbs. The last store suggested a big Ace Hardware across the street but they had the same thing: 5,000lbs max.

I expect the auto parts stores in Florida's more rural counties carry stronger ones, but my county is the most densley populated per capita in the state. So I have to cross one or more county lines to really go wheeling.

I'll try Sprawl-Mart tomorrow. Thanks! If anyone else has more suggestions, throw em at me!

Try a company called Certified Slings in Tampa. They can even custom make it for you.

Re: Trouble sourcing strong tow strap & folding shovel

I got one rated for 15,000+ from an Advance Auto Parts some months ago. They are out there, they are just not being stocked at your local stores apparently.

It's a not a great strap, frankly. The second one I got from Wheeler's Offroad appears to be far better made.

You can get a folding shovel from Cabelas or most surplus stores I suspect. I would think that any store with a large camping section would have folding shovels.

Yup , any surplus store will have whats called an E tool. Im not sure if thats the folding shovel you want but it can be opened straight or at a 90 degree angle and folds down nice and small.

Re: Trouble sourcing strong tow strap & folding shovel

I have two 30k pounder pro-comp straps, they
have been great over the last 7 years... I got
them at Summitracing a ways back... As far as
the shovel and sorts, I have mine mounted up
top on the roof rack...

[edit] Way back when, I used to use a retired
aircraft carrier crash fence cross strap, it was
about a tripple 6" strap... That thing was just
great, to bad my pops retired from makin' them
umteen' years ago...

Hi Mikey,

Did you pick up a tow strap in the Edmonton area? If so from where?

Thanks.
