My First Mods!

NOTE: This thread has turned in to a complete build diary for my FJ and the more interesting mods are listed on page 2 of the thread.

It ain't much, but it's a start. Was trying to negotiate the purchase of a winch mount, dual battery system and roof lights w/a vendor online here, but the deal fell through. Was looking on spending about $5k on the works. Looks like I'll be saving that money for the time being, but I always seem to find a way to spend money somewhere.

Here are my first mods!

First Mod: Dodge Durango 4x4 Emblem

Found a left over "4x4" stick-on emblem from my 2001 Durango (long gone) and noticed that it fit very nicely into the instep of the "FJ Cruiser" logo at the rear of the car, so I just stuck it on. The lettering isn't exactly the same, but it blends well.

Second Mod: TRD Racing Hitch Cover

Bought a "TRD Racing" hitch cover to fill the empty hole. Didn't like the other ones I saw online all that much (mostly FJ and Toyota logos which are already overdone on the rear), but this is a good match with the TRD hub cover on the spare tire mounted on the rear door. Haven't seen any other FJ's with this hitch cover, which is also a plus in my view. This is where I found the hitch cover: Toyota hitch covers - Toyota. It's pricey at $30 plus shipping but it's very nice!

Third - Twentieth Mods:

See Msgs #11, 12 & 20 on Page 2 of this thread.

Re: My First Mods!

You have to start somewhere. It has been very contagious for many. Make sure you tell your wallet all the things you have meant to tell it over the years. These may be your last days with it.

Re: My First Mods!

as for the hitch if you ever get sick of the trd one just leave the ball on there with a lock that way if you get rear ended like i did you kill there car and most likely get away with a scratch (yes i had the frame checked by a professional) poor lady got her radiator mangled serves her right for not paying attention

Re: My First Mods!

tsk tsk tsk tsk! get ready for the flames to roll as soon as the 3199ers see that you put one of there most prized TRD badgings on a nonTRD rig. This type of irresponsible action has caused many a tongue lashing from them. They still think anyone cares!

I like the look myself........before I installed a large shackle on an extended tongue (for rear-end protection) I just used the rubber plug that came with the vehicle.

I can feel the heat already starting to build.

Just go tell them where to stick it.

Thug: I use to do that w/my Durango, but it has the opposite impact. I actually forgot the hitch was on and backed into a car damaging their front bumper and had to cover it through my insurer, which is why I don't do THAT any more.

Guess it's a good thing that I posted this in the Newbie Discussions Corner -- it's a no flame zone!

FWIW, I have the TRD wheels and the TRD exhaust. The TRD hitch cover matched the wheel mounted on the rear door and just looks good to me. The others who've posted here seem to like it, as well, and any TRD owner who doesn't like it will just have to deal w/it.
