Interior Switch Lighting

I recently purchased my first FJ Cruiser (2008) and have a question of other owners. I have Auto Transmission, Upgrade Package #2, Convenience Package, Converter Package, and 3" lift.

My question is about the switches on the dash for the A-Trac, Rear Diff Lock, Rear Subwoofer, Rear Parking Sonar, etc. Only two of the switches are lit at night and I was wondering if this is "normal" or are there lights not working inside the switches??

It's normal - I had the same questions, and I have the identical vehicle that you do. If you pull out the sub woofer switch, you'll see there's no illumination. I think it's weird - they should all be lit. I'm playing with the idea of installing a small LED illumination light above those switches (pointing down) in the dash overhang, that will also illuminate the cup holder, etc.

Re: Interior Switch Lighting

Exactly as I was thinking. The shifter is lit (plus you see the gear on the instrument cluster) but there are no lights for the 4WD shifter or to see the cup holders. (Nothing like spilling nasty Coke on your pant leg and the floor.)

But I did figure the installed switches would have been illuminated. Sounds like suggestion time to Toyota.

Re: Interior Switch Lighting

I installed a Sylvania dot-it led at center console which illuminates the forward part of the center console.

Re: Interior Switch Lighting

Do you have a picture of that? It sounds like a great idea.

LED lighting.

Instead of drilling and adding 5mm LED's I opted for a surface mount.

Available in straight or round, and six colors, the chrome bezeled LED modules give a tremendous glow.

A discrete yet sleek lighting solution, the LED modules work great both tucked away or directly visible.

They are ready to work on any 12 volt system. Just hook up the red wire to positive, and the black to negative (ground).

I hooked it up off of the back of the 12V power outlet in the dash. I tapped into the brown wire (positive) that is hot only when the key is on, then just ran a ground to a body bolt. The nice thing about this is I spent less than 30 minutes getting it all connected and drilled no holes. The Straight module I opted for comes with doublesided tape and I just stuck it under the dash bezel (the one thats painted around your heater controls)centered and the wire runs throught the back to the connection point.

Its real bright and the whole thing was under 15 bucks, including shipping.

There are a few interior lighting threads available you just need to search for them.

Re: Interior Switch Lighting

This is one of the few things that piss me off about my FJ. What was toyota thinking?

.
So does the light stay on when the key is on? Or do you have a switch for the light?

It is on only when the key is on.
