Another Uber Newb FJ question

OK,

So I am somewhat close to buying this slightly used FJ Cruiser

eBay Motors: Toyota : FJ Cruiser (item 220186817159 end time Jan-26-08 06:13:54 PST)

However it does not have the A-trac switch. Am I correct in the understanding that all I have to do is take to to a Toyota dealership and they can install one for me?

Is that correct?

Re: Another Uber Newb FJ question

It looks like that one doesn't have a rear locker so the answer for you would be no.

You have to have the locker to be able to put A-trac in.

Re: Another Uber Newb FJ question

I can't tell by the auction pics if that is a rear locker button or not. It's in the same place mine is. Find out for sure, if it does have the rear locker then all you have to do is add the A-Trac switch.

Theres a good thread on here that walks you through it. I think it only takes 1 minute to install the switch. Good Luck!

I wouldn't stress over the atrac unless you are one of those people that *must* have all the extra useless gadgets in everything you buy. I honestly wouldn't miss my ATRAC, I almost never use it. (when I need it, I always go for the locker). Just my 2 cents.

Re: Another Uber Newb FJ question

I know I can search for it but I am about to leave the house for a few hours.

Can anyone give me the Cliff Notes version of what the A-trac actually does?

Once again sorry for the naive questions. I am learning as I go along.

From the post next to yours
2. ATRAC is a computer controlled traction aid that will brake the spinning wheels and apply power to the gripping ones, giving you better forward momentum in the rough stuff.

Re: Another Uber Newb FJ question

If you want to drive offroad, the rear locker is too nice of a feature to not have on an FJ, so I would move along. There are oodles of FJs for sale out there, determine what you want, know what a good deal is, negotiate, and get it.

I am a little confused.

What is the rear locker and how can I tell if it has it or not?

Does anyone know if A-trac helps on ice?

Thanks again guys for responding. You have all been a great help.
