roof rack crossbars

I have a customer with a stk. roof rack that wants the top crossbar to slide all the way to the front. He has a 14ft kayak to carry. I have not been able to find anything that will work for him. Going to try the OEM light mount and wind deflector next. Any ideas on how to get a top crossbars on the front of the rack? And if you have the OEM light bar/wind delflector, will they hold any weight? Thanks.

Re: roof rack crossbars

Short of building one...the light bar is your best idea....I redrilled mine to slide to the front...but it won't hold much weight....

And I love the fact that a Toyota person came here for help....good idea....we know alot over here....

This may not help, since it involves replacing the stock rack with Yakima racks directly on the roof. But here are some Kayak roof rack solutions.

Re: roof rack crossbars

Not all the cross bars are the same length...I've swapped them around some and was able to get within a few inches of the front of the rack without drilling or anything like that. I wish I could tell the original location of the longest bar, but I've moved them around so much that I can't remember.

Re: roof rack crossbars

there are two S (short) cross bars and Two l (long) cross bars. the only bars that fit on the top part of the rear rack, are short. so make sure you try all cross bars since they have no labeling on them.

so you should have him try all cross bars if he hasnt yet
