Questions on option packages

Hi everybody-

I'm thinking about an FJ, have been checking out the Toyota website, and have some questions:

1. The Convenience Package contains rear Intuitive Parking Assist and back-up sonar. What is the difference between these two?

2. Upgrade Package 1/2 has 17-in. 6-spoke aluminum alloy wheels with P265/70R17 tires and full size spare (exterior rear door mount). Does one not get a spare if a vehicle does not have either of those packages, or is it not a full-size spare, or is it not externally mounted, or something else?

3. If I get an FJ, it will probably be after I move to the Houston area. I noticed that FJs in Texas all appear to be equipped with these "Extra Mile" packages, which seem pretty expensive. Here in California, there are no such packages. Does anyone know why there's such a big regional difference?

I hope these haven't been asked....I used the SEARCH, and couldn't find anything.

Thanks in advance.

1-There is no difference between the two its 1 system

2- They all get a full size spare the only difference is the wheels.Without the
upgrade package you get the black steel wheels

3- Can't really answer but they equip with different options in different areas

Hope this helps

Well the good news is that if you get an '08 model year, they pretty much come from the factory with the CQ (Convenience Package) as a part of the base model...Frank already gave youe you correct answers, but just to expound a little bit more I'd say that:

1. The intuitive part comes from the sensors being able to distinguish whether or not you're between 1-3 feet away from an object or structure...You'll get a short solid beep when you're 3 feet away, a quick burst of beeps within 2 feet, and a fast burst to solid beep when you get any closer than that...The rear sonars are the actual bumper mounted sensors that are helping you out.

2. Yes you're good to go with a rear mounted full sized spare if you get an upgrade package or not...And again as Frank noted, you'll get the factory black steelies without the upgrades...The single difference between upgrade package 1 & 2 is the subwoofer added to the audio system...1 doesn't have it, 2 does...

3. With every dealership trying to assume what it's regional customers would want on their vehicles, the add-ons can get out of control...In the middle of the urban jungles of where you're at here in the Bay Area, they'll offer the audio upgrades, maybe the rear wheel cover, the billet door sill guards etc...While a dealership out in the country or hills might add the brush guards, add a lift, or put some extra lights on the roof rack...Your best bet is to try and order your FJ the way you want it...Even in Texas you can get it any way you want it

Welcome to the forums!!! Good luck with your purchase!!!

Re: Questions on option packages

I guess it never crossed my mind about the steelies....I've never seen an FJ here that didn't have the alloys.

Thanks everybody for the thorough explanations.
