Bilsten in A/T Pkg versus Tokiko in non-A/T pkg for street usage

Hey all,

Trying to figure out which FJ package to get. I'm currently looking at an 08 FJ with CQ and All-Terrain package for a hair over $24k (amazing price imo) at a local dealer, or one equiped with the Upgrade Package #1 for $26k from fitzautomall.

All the added creature comforts which come with #1 is nice, but unnecessary as they can be added/upgraded later if I choose to. I really dig the 16's and have read that the bfg's are a hair better than the duncraps. But the part that is still open in my mind is the Bilsteins vs. Tokiko's (i believe they're toki's on non-AT units) for on-road performance, ride, and daily driveability.

90% of the time my FJ will be used on paved surfaces as a daily commuter. The 10% of the time will be used on summer weekends at the beach.

Hope to join the ranks within the next couple weeks!

I got my '08 with nothing but the CQ and OF (off road/all terrain) packages and I love it...I'm primarily a weekend warrior too, and I don't off of the pavement very much...The Bilsteins and BFG Rugged Trail TA's stiffen up the ride nicely...I test drove this one and a stock suspension and the OF options really help it handle better both on and off pavement

And you're right about the upgrade packages...The upgraded stereo is nice and all, but the CQ package is really all you need...You can add everything you want for a lot cheaper than what Toyota wants to charge you for it...

Best of luck with your purchase!!!

DAN

Go with the Bilsteins. You cant go wrong with bilstein's ride quality as well as build quality.

Mine came with package #2. If I did it again, I'd go for the off road package instead. I don't care about a sub-woofer and the gauge pod is kinda cheesy except for the outside temp, which is nice to have if you live where it can get icy (they should just put that on the dash somewhere and dump the pod). The Dunlops are not very good in the snow. They're fine on dry and even ok on wet pavement, but that's about it. I will definitely go with a more aggressive tread when I replace them. In fact, I'm thinking hard about looking for a set of steel wheel take-offs and mounting up some good, more aggressive tires for winter use and just using the Dunlops in the summer on the street.

I just picked up the exact same on Thursday, I too was torn between cq and offroad and cq and upgrade package 1. I am very glad with my choice. I picked it up for just over 25k. Either way I'm sure you can't go wrong, but I think I made the right choice, at least for me.

Picked up a Titanium 08 CQ OR + bling plate, rack, all-weather mats, last Thursday and currently breaking her in.

Thanks all!

How much did it run you? I'm looking at the same package and debating over the UP because the only thing that it has that can't be added later is the leather wrapped steering wheel.

Go for the bilsteins. I wish I had and want to upgrade now but it's going to run me about a grand to do so...$hitloads of labor involved and I'm retarded with wrenches so must pay to have it done. My 2 cents...
