Why is the FJ better than the H3?

Not that I would ever consider buying one... but I have this friend at work, who is always hyping up GM products. I was talking to him about the FJ the other day and he was sort of giving me the H3 is better shtick. I understand that the 4 doors of the H3 are nice if you need them, but what makes the FJ superior to the H3 (besides the obvious fact that it is a Toyota and should last a good long while)?

better resale value, looks, brand, power unless you pay 40k for the 5.3 liter v-8. Theres probably alot more but i dont want to hog all the fun. One thing i wish the fj had that the h3 does have is 4.56 gears stock.

Re: Why is the FJ better than the H3?

I didn't know you could get a V8. That's interesting. I was telling him that the H3 was pretty much the same as his dad's Chevy Colorado pickup, because they both had the 5 cylinder engine. I hope I wasn't giving bad info.

OK, I'll say it . . . Hummers (All of them) are ugly, especially the H3's (sorry, only my opinion)

FJ's scream Style and good looks.

Re: Why is the FJ better than the H3?

i was considering the h3 but decided to go with the fj. the hummer has two engines options the v8 or the inline 5 cylinder, like said earlier if you spend 41,000 and get the v8 i think its a pretty good car but the 5 cylinder is just way to underpowered, i drove an h3 and its fine until 45mph then it just losses all grunt, and there other things that ill let others go over with you

Re: Why is the FJ better than the H3?

ya like i said the v-8 is only in the alpha option i believe i only know because i was going to buy one but i drove both of them and the v-8 was nice but to much the 5 cylinder is just pathetic.

Re: Why is the FJ better than the H3?

I like the look of the H3. I was considering them, but in the end I like FJs' looks better and FJ's price tag too.

If they were making that Hx thing though, I'd be there buying one right now

Hahaha, well that's the question nobody wants to really answer... You're not going to get a solid answer, just perceptions about reliability, resale, looks, etc.

Only thing I've noticed that I don't like about the H3 is the way the rear shocks are mounted to the axle. Just seems like they hang down really far and are more towards the center of the axle compared to the FJ or a Jeep.

But really I've got no problem with the H3, commence with the stoning!

Re: Why is the FJ better than the H3?

I had a 1984 Chevy S-10 Blazer and it was built like a tank. I think my brother-in-law still drives it. I passed it on to a brother, who passed it on to another brother, who passed it on to his wife, who passed it on to a sister, who passed it on to her (now ex) husband.

The thing is a tank and was a good 4 wheeler, but the one thing I hated about it was that the 2.8 l V6 was totally underpowered. I can't believe GM is still making underpowered SUV's considering how many powerful options they have in their product lines. You'd think after all that has happened in the last 20 plus years they would learn their lesson. I felt like that vehicle was dangerous on the freeway because I couldn't get up to speed quickly enough. It's nice to see that some things never change.

Haha, nice... yea, I had a '99 GMC Sonoma 2.2L (completely stock) that raced autocross and rallycross, saw payloads of several tons, was jumped airborne like in redneck videos on YouTube... I accelerated full throttle at all times in normal driving, it did a continuous hour of laps at Road America in Wisc, full throttle or full braking for an hour... burnouts at the rev limited for 5 minutes at a time... the list goes on and on.

Even with all that intentional abuse, I never had to service or replace a single thing on that truck except the oil and tires. Traded it in on the FJ and the dealer couldn't find anything wrong with it, no questions asked.

The whole GM reliability problem is something I never experienced! Maybe I lucked out, who knows...
