"Young" 60 year old female here who has always had her heart set on an FJ. Right now I own a Honda Element, which I have enjoyed, but can't keep my eyes off the FJ's. Question is...since most of you already own one, do you think it's a good choice for a 60 year old female????? I love camping, hiking, biking, etc., so this would work well in that respect.
Just wanting some opinions!!!!
Thanks!
Im 63, my wife is 61 and we both love the FJ. She loves driving it and finds it comfortable on long trips. Great for camping. Much improvement over an Element! Drive one, you'll fall in love.
I think it would be an awesome site to see a 60 year young individual running around in a FJ, especially since you do some many outdoorsy things. I say go for it!

I doubt you'll get a single opinion discouraging you from the FJ on this forum, but to be honest, there isn't any "sane" person who can come up with a "No, don't do it and here's why" argument.
Plainly, the FJ is as easy to drive and as comfortable as the Honda Element. The main difference is that the FJ is much more capable off road (and may be more roomy...don't know much about the Element, so can't tell if this is a factor).
Test drive the FJ, and see how you like its handling and feel. Also make sure you compare the fuel mileage between the Element and the FJ if cost-to-run is an issue for you.
Good luck on your decision, and your age by the way is a complete non-factor; FJ owners range the entire spectrum of "agedness".
I'll throw this out there and hope nobody punches me....
One thing to consider is your mobility. I know that as I have gotten older, I have had difficulty getting into certain vehicles because of a back and leg problem. If you are healthy enough to get up into one then I'm sure you'll love it. If you have difficulty getting up into a vehicle then it might be something to consider.
My mother is a bit older than you (mid 60's) but she couldn't get into my Isuzu Trooper without a lot of assistance because of a back condition. There is no way she could have driven it as she wouldn't be able to get in on her own. Just something to consider. Make sure you really try one out. If your health is good then why not? Drive something you enjoy!!!!
Thanks everyone!! Don't have any problems, so I don't think getting into one will be an issue. The Element is a little high off the ground and you need to step up into it. My mother has a problem lifting her legs into it, but she gets in it just fine....just takes her a few minutes! She doesn't ride in it very often, so that's not a consideration on my part. The Element is big on space inside, and that's what I like, so I'd like to know how all of you that own one feel about usable space in them.
The issue of visibility out the side/back is of a small concern to me. But I notice all of you have resolved that by getting used to it,use of mirrors, and back up camera, all of which I'm not opposed to.

Then absolutely get one, just install some kind of step bumper for your mom

You can even get one of those little step stools to take along when your mom is with you. Just throw it in the back, and get it out when she needs to get in and out. That way you don't have to mount anything permanently. Just an idea...

Thanks BamBam.....actually I had a step stool for her, but she wanted to get in it herself without it.....all 83 years of her!!!!!! And she does it!!!

Of course I know I will get the biased opinions of FJ owners, but I'm hoping, objectively, they will give me their opinions on their experience with the FJ.
I like Toyota brand....had a Corolla in the past I kept for 11 years, so I know the reliability of the brand. Just wanting more the practicality of the FJ on a daily basis, and the thoughts on that.
