Since i am a complete noob at offroading where my greatest trail experience has been to take a '85 stock nissan sentra on a 2-mile mud-trail adventure (gotta love a car where you and three buddies can lift the thing out of the mud when needed) I have been itching to take my new rig out since I bought it. Only problem is, the snow just keeps coming! So today, I decided to do a very short trail.... my driveway. And to make it interesting I was determined to keep at least 2 wheels off the plowed portion for the entire 180 foot length. I packed a lunch and a cooler and prepped an extra gas can as I knew that this offroading action burns more gas then regular driving. I loaded the back with my first aid kit, recovery strap, shovel, axe, flashlight and CB radio. Of course I did break a cardinal rule and I chose to wheel the entire driveway... alone! Even alone though, I felt prepared to handle the dangers my driveway was inevitably going to throw at me.
I decided to start at the end furthest from the house as I know such a long trek would feel better if I was heading home instead of away. As I entered the trail I wanted the full experience so I dropped to 4-low, engaged the rear diff and turned on a-trak. I then aimed the right side up at the snow bank and ever-so carefully edged forward. I was amazed at how effortlessly the truck rode up onto the banking, and with occasional glances at the Toyota Tilt-o-Matic(tm) on the dash I felt secure. For the vast majority of the trek I kept the angle around 15-20 degrees, dipping only occasionally when mother nature (and the snowblower) took mercy and dropped the snowbank for a stretch.
By the end of the harrowing adventure I felt different. Serene. At peace. I felt like a man!
All kidding aside, I was surprised at how much 15 degrees tip felt like. Before I glanced at the pod I would have thought it was a much higher angle. From what I read this rig should be able to go to 30 degrees and not fall over. That should be a damn good time. Hopefully soon the snow will melt and I can find a couple people to head out on some stocker friendly trails.
Perhaps this could be an annual event like the summit.

Very funny story! I get a big kick out of driving on the big mounds of snow in parking lots
