Re: Tire Pressure Monitor
I have experienced this first hand and I was pleasantly surprised. We were on our way back from a weekend at Calico and after a few detours, on our way home, we decided to do a quick Cleghorn run when just as we were approaching the off ramp, I noticed the amber low tire pressure warning light. We (Me, Wife, Son and Daughter) exited the freeway and I inspected the vehicle. Sure enough the Rear Left tire was low and further inspection found a very large round metal object about 5/8" diameter imbedded in the tire. I changed the tire, got back on the freeway and headed home. The light never went out. When we got home, I removed the metal object which was deceiving as the actual hole in the tire was only 1/4" but the rest of this object that did not actually penetrate was larger. This was an excellent opportunity to try out the new ARB Tyre Repair kit and it worked nicely. In fact, it is still holding 40 psi one week later. Well as soon as I was able to re-inflate the now spare tire, bam, the light was off.
Why would this not be an excellent thing? Are you all aware of how many vehicle deaths and serious injuries a year can be attributed to low tire pressure? Usually in SUV's at high rates of speed and bam, a blow out. A little over correction in the steering and your vehicle is now like a shoe in a tumble dryer.
Trust me, this is a great safety feature. And it's in the valve stem, that is why they are made with a rigid alloy. I am wondering if this valve stem can be transferred to aftermarket rims. Anyone here know?
Myth of disabling your vehicle when warning is activated? Busted!
Myth of this being connected to all 5 tires? Confirmed
BTW, It’s a wireless transmitter in the tires or valve stems that sends the information to the vehicles onboard computer (per the manual)
