Tire Pressure Monitor

Seems like I read somewhere that the FJ has this.....is this true? If so - where would it display this?

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor

I wish it would show the actual pressure, but it won't. Just a warning, I believe, when they get low.. Ron

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor

The 2007 does not have them, the 2008 does. As of the 2008 model year all street vehicles sold in the US are required to have them. Glad I got the 07, just something else to have to fix when it breaks. I have a pressure gauge and a compressor and check all my tires on all vehicles on a regular basis.

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor

I just dropped my car off to get tires put on this morning (Nittos I bought from someone here). The guy at the tire place informed me that I had the tire pressure monitor. I assumed I didn't have it because my last car (XTerra) had them and they would go off (a long, sustained beep) whenever it got cold, regardless of proper pressure in the tire. VERY annoying. But my FJ has not done that, thankfully.

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor

Mine has never sounded either.. I have no idea when they are designed to trigger. Considering the high tire pressures the FJ seems to like, they may never get low enough to trigger the box! Actually I don't understand how someone could drive around with a low tire, but I see it every day. I can usually tell if mine are 10% off fairly easy and it will bug the crap out of me. Ron

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor

It's just a light on the dash - no sounding alarm.

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor

I wonder if the TPS actually records pressure readings, or just has a single pressure reading to trigger the switch (a simple pressure valve)?

If it does indeed measure pressure in pounds, does this get reported to the ECM? And, if so, can a ScanGauge display that?

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor

BTW the 08's tire's "nipple" is so stiff it will get ripped off all the time, our friend a couple weekends ago bumped into a rather small rock and ripped it right off cost him $175 to get it fixed. The 08's rim (offroad package) is different then the 07 and allows the nipple to be exposed to the elements, total crap design IMO!! Buyers BEWARE!!!
