deep water that for about 2-3 seconds was well over the 27 inch mark
How far over? I'm wondering how deep is sufficiently deep to cause water contamination like yours. I get nervous when I see mystery holes of water ahead- I prefer the rocks.

Re: How would you know if you messed up the pullies or got water in thew the breather

I just had to repalce my idler pully after a hell of a good time up at Rausch Creek, trail team was there, anyhow. If your fj sounds almost like a diesel engine ford pickup truck (sorry only way I know how to describe the noise). Than you need too change or have dealer check your pullys. I didn't go through really deep water/mud but did get some up some speed to make a splace when I went through a couple of puddles. (had to get a good pic)

Re: How would you know if you messed up the pullies or got water in thew the breather

ok the water was half way up the door but only on one side. If that gives u a idea of how deep i had no intention of going in that deep. I saw a jeep do it and didnt get that deep i guess i slid off the shelf.

No my truck doesn't sound like a diesel so i guess im safe. I believe it was a wet belt. But its in the shop right now getting fixed from a break in i had so im getting it back tommrrow and hopefully the breathers will be installed tommrrow as well.

Yeah, the diesel sound is the indication that it is time to change the pulleys. I've changed mine 3x and it always makes the diesel sound.

Re: How would you know if you messed up the pullies or got water in thew the breather

did you have water marks inside your air cleaner filter? you can also remove the intake tube at the fender held by he 2 bolts and pull it out of the fender and see any traces of mud/water. hope this helps

Well i didnt even check because the way i slid off was the opposite of the intake so it was dry.

Re: How would you know if you messed up the pullies or got water in thew the breather

I've been in alot of mud and water, I spray the pullies with silicone, keeps them quiet and prevents wear. I also power wash everything under the hood after a trip, is amazing how much mud and how long it takes to get crap out of the radiator.

Re: How would you know if you messed up the pullies or got water in thew the breather

When you drained the TC, was there any water in it? The 5AT vent and the TC vent are very close to each other. If the TC had water in it I would change the ATF. If you start to feel any vibration or roughness in shifting I would immediately drain the atf.

If you look at all the vents on the FJ, on the 5AT the front diff vent and the axle disconnect vent are up high in the engine compartment, on the driver's side, the trans and TC vents are up on the bellhousing but lower than the front vents. The rear diff vent and e-locker vent are only 18-19 inches off the ground on stock FJ's.
