Ok just wondering if anything like a suspension lift or something like exhaust or headers /intake, anyhting of that nature would void the powertrain warranty the fj comes with?

The warranty is against manufactures defects and the burden of proof of what caused the failure is on Toyota. If what ever you change can be directly link the a component failure that portion of the warranty can be voided. Having said that we are a Toyota dealer and also sell ARB/OME products as well as Camburg, ICON etc... We look at this a little different than your run of the mill Toyota store. What are you wanting to do? Maybe someone can help shed some insight on it for.
im going to kill the spelling but theres something called the mognosson act that you should look up basically saying toyota has to prove that the mod such as a lift caused the damage. So basically yes if you put 6 inch lift with 35's and you blow a tie rod then youre probably screwed but it really all depends on the dealer that youre bringing it too.

This is the same information giver to me when I bought my FJ. When you think about it, if a dealer sells a rig with a all-terrain pkg, and has various off-road options, chances are you will go off-road. Toyota knows that 80% of us 4x4 types will mod with some aftermarket parts. Camburg and ICON stage 1 lifts keep you somwhat close to factory, but if you want to go with a long travel lift, you might have problems with your warranty. Don't worry, I was told that FJ's never fail!

I saw a race on T.V. where the guys rolled their wagon over doing a pre-run and then went almost the whole BAJA California race before the transmission grenaded... Even after heavily modifying the FJ, a dealership still replaced the transmission under warranty. They showed everything on the T.V. show so it must be true.

Everything fails, just a matter of when and where. I can assure you some of the other members of broken a whole rack of things. An FJ is just less likely to fail than others.....

I was told the same by my dealer. It also all depends on the day they are having. Some will turn a blind eye towards some Mods/Repairs and others will flat out say youve voided it. But i have gotten nothing but great service from my dealer and stated my intentions on my Fj. There were no problems and were willing to work with me. But i also said that im going heavy on Mods and if it voids the warranty then oh well. Its a toyota and i have heard nothing but great things from all toyota owners. You take care of your "car" and your car will take care of you...
The Magnusson/Moss act. Wikipedia that puppy.
4x4's are not the lone ranger that have to battle this issue with vehicles. Tuner cars, hot rods, they have all been dealing with this issue for a while.
If you power windows stop working a week after you installed your lift. There is almost no way they can prove that the lift affected the windows.
However, if you install 35 inch tires and your brakes start acting funny, they may try to say that the much larger wheels caused the problem and you may have to pay the bill.
They HAVE to prove where the fault lies.

You are referring to the episode on Speed T.V. That dealership got a good bit of promotion out of that. It looks as though they replaced the transmission no questions asked.
Not sure if you have ever had warranty work done, it doesn't happen that quickly. I'd bet the that they paid for all that work done either with cash or as a deal to promote the dealership.
Most people on here won't show up to the dealership without having pressure washed every single inch of the undercarriage before they go in to the dealership with a warranty issue.

That was on "Two Roads to the Taupo 1000". I think the dealer was just doing it for publicity. Don't expect the same ease of service in the real world -- dealers do not like warrantying transmissions.
