Colors available vary by state?

I currently own a Tacoma and I'm shopping for an FJ. I live in Massachusetts and I cannot find any FJ's in white or sandstorm. I tried to "build" my own FJ online through the Toyota website and neither color is available. Do I have to go to another state to purchase the FJ color I like? It also seems the Trail Team Edition FJ's are not available in my region....

Re: Colors available vary by state?

That's a good question Stew but I don't have an answer. I was wondering the last couple of years why you could not special order an American manufactured pickup truck with a manual f'in transmission unless you lived in Texas but now it seems that unless you want a Dodge truck you cannot have a manual transmission at all any way. I think that if you can get it far enough up the rear end of the guys who do the "special ordering" you might be in luck....otherwise you will have to move across country to where the rear ends have already been properly serviced; then, maybe you will be allowed to purchase what you want and not what the other guys want.

Re: Colors available vary by state?

Larry that is a good question. I have yet to see a Sandstorm or TT FJ at a Mass dealership. I know they have two TT's at Rockingham Toyota in Salem N.H. if your interested in a TT I don't know anything about that dealership, if they are good to deal with or not. I have read on this site they are clowns but that could be just that persons opinion.

Re: Colors available vary by state?

The "build your own" option on the web page is kind of useless in that they limit options by zip code, but exactly how or why I don't know. I used to think that it was somehow tied to the current stock of the closest dealer, but checking dealer stock on the web and walking on a few local lots I've seen lots of colors and options sitting there unsold that the "build your own" page won't show as options. I've only really talked to one dealer, and the feeling I got from them was that they didn't think they would have much trouble locating just about anything I wanted. So you should probably ignore the web page, or type in random zip codes until the options you want show up and then go ask the dealer.

Re: Colors available vary by state?

I think that all states have all of the available colors. It is more about the speed of the purchaser. The Sandstone and the TT are popular choices. I drove by the lot were I "Got my FJ on" and they were Sun Fushion and VooDoo heavy. Good luck with your search and the day you get "Your FJ on!"

Re: Colors available vary by state?

I'll update my earlier answer: I think it might be tied to what was shipped to the dealers in the last month, ignoring trades. When I actually went to buy an FJ I found that at least some of the options that didn't show up in the "build your own" web page were not available locally, and I'd have to wait a month (or convince a dealer to do a trade, or drive a few hundred miles myself) to get one with different options. (I decided to drive a few hundred miles.)

Re: Colors available vary by state?

Guys, I know I have only seen one Sandstorm on a lot here in New Orleans. I have also only seen one brick, and no TT SEs. Just remember, even if you cannot get all the options that you want, lots of things can be modded after you bring it home. Granted, you cannot turn a Sun Fusion into a TT SE edition but lots of other things can be changed. These trucks are really pretty easy to mod. Even as a girl, I can do lots of stuff by myself.
