Re: hood protector

if it was like the 3M tape I had on my SAAB in Europe it is similar to the non-slip tape but without the abrasive surface and it stays on vehicle permanently....

thanks for response about weathertech hood protector. i am still going to give them a look at a local store that carries them and see if they have one in stock I can pre-fit to see if they have the same issues or you were recipient of a lazy employee that packaged it up to get out the door on Friday earlier...rather than walking next door to get more proper boxes. Thanks again...

Re: hood protector

The OEM one, which is what I have, seems to do a pretty good job. I don't have any chips on the hood at all. Maybe at speed, it deflects objects away? I dunno.

I have a clear mask on my hood, A-pillar and side mirrors. Works pretty well and it's guaranteed to not yellow. X-pel and 3M are some good brands out there.

I had 3M film installed on the leading edge of the hood (from the front edge to about 12 inches back), A-pillars, upper windshield trip cap, mirrors, etc.... and it's done a great job.

Same here, tastes great . . . less filling. Also use this on my headlamps (although a thicker version).

i know they make a hood bug deflector but i was wonderingif this helps against rock chips to the hood. my hood looks like i shot it with a shoygun . i was wondering if they make a hood bra for the fj or if there is anything out there to help with the rock chips. thanks.
I have the hood deflector from toyota i lucked out because they only had one when the fj first came out. I like it it does help but its not going to act like a shield generator on the milenium falcon in an asteroid field but it helps. there are alot of other ones now i like the form fit one a little better.

Re: hood protector

The 3M film can stay on through car washes. Another plus is you get a greater area of protection with 3M film than a hood deflector. Depending on how much coverage you want, there are film kits that cover the entire hood and fenders. If for some reason you get sick of it, the film can easily be removed with a hairdryer.

Re: hood protector

The 3M film is removal, just not easy. The installer told me that if it gets damaged, they can remove it and install a new film. Mine's been on for about 15 months and it looks like new, even after many washes, snow, ice, salt, sand, etc.... I highly recommend it.

I agree. I have the film and although I was skeptical at first it looks as new after 9 months with a commute that's chipped every other vehicle I've driven.

I just got my first small rock chip a few weeks ago and it's about a half inch past where the film ends on the hood.
