My new whip (FJ) is amazing!

I owned a 400hp Subaru WRX STI for the past year and a half. It was great, but just not suiting my needs. Out of nowhere, I sold it, went to a dealership, and left with a 2007 VooDoo Blue FJ w/ 21k miles. In all the excitement I really never asked about maintenance and all that jazz. I have owned the car for two days, and I absolutly love it. Coming from a very fast sports car to this is weird, but fun nonetheless. I have a strong feeling this could become the best car I have owned to date. Everything about it has impressed me thus far. The ride, the build quality, looks, interior, just overall very impressed. This was a very spur of the moment descision, which I thought I would regret, and I have not in the slightest.

Are there any pointers/tips you all could give me? Against all my judgement, I bought a warranty that extends me to 100k, which I may return if advised to do so. The only service I have record of is a sticker showing I have 3k miles until the next oil change. I perform most if not all service on my own, and was wondering if there are any major fluids and/or parts that I should inspect as a new owner.. and what I can look forward to over the next few thousand miles. I am well aware these boards are flooded with questions like this, so if you know of a pre-existing thread covering all the goodies, please feel free to point me in the right direction and accept my apoligies for being a lazy searcher.

The entire expierence is sureal to me, and I hope it continues to be a good one!

Thanks,
JimmyTheDriver

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the FJ! Careful, forum is very addictive!

You should get the front and rear diff fluids changed ASAP. Check the belts for mud/debris.

Haha yeah no kidding. Forums are very addictive. How do you think I ended up with a 400hp STI?

Re: My new whip (FJ) is amazing!

Howdy and welcome to the forum! You've come to the right place! The FJ experience is a surreal one for many enthusiasts and one that lasts. Many of us feel like we've been waiting for this vehicle our whole lives and that it was built with us in mind. I'm one of those FJ enthusiasts and it is hard for me to imagine myself driving anything else anytime soon. It fulfills my vehicular needs across so many parameters... I could go on and on...

Anyway, with respect to your request for tips, it would be helpful to know what transmission, drivetrain (4x2 or 4x4), and other features and options that your FJ already came with.

Congrats!

Re: My new whip (FJ) is amazing!

First time i have heard the FJ referred to as a whip

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to a plethora of information (aka the forum). I have always been a fan of the Subaru Imprezas.

Re: My new whip (FJ) is amazing!

Thanks all!

Automatic
4x4 w/ diff lock is the only powertrain upgrade I know of. Also roof rack, parking assist, nerf bars.

Ill try and snap a few pics soon. I have some pinstripes I was curious about... as I have never seen them on an FJ.

Re: My new whip (FJ) is amazing!

search "add a-trac button" All you have to do is install this one button and you get this cool feature ( if you have a 4x4 with a rear diff lock then it is already on there, just missing a button if you didn't get a certain package from the dealer)

A-Trac brakes a spinning wheel (no traction) and sends powers to a wheel with traction when you are in 4-Lo and have it activated. Switch is about 40 bucks.

If by pinstripes you are referring to the silver piece running down the vehicle, i thought it was ugly so i removed it.
If you are referring to "desert pinstriping" as in scratches caused by branches on the trail, some buffing and wax might take it out.

Re: My new whip (FJ) is amazing!

Thanks man, thats a great tip. Thats a pretty slick move on the dealers part... giving the functionality, but no button to use it.

My stripes are different than both described above, I think pics will be the only solution.

Whip? I generally refer to mine as a--pimp daddy blinged out g-ride, yo--but that might be a little too old school.
