Clutch Cancel button

What is the benefit of the "Clutch Cancel Button" found on the 6 speed MT? What situation would I use that in and how? Thanks

Too many buttons and switches!!!

Re: Clutch Cancel button

The switch allows you to turn the motor over with the ignition key without needing to use the clutch. It is used so you can accelerate from a stopped position on an incline without needing to modulate the clutch, brakes and accelerator all at once...you only have two feet afterall. Thanks for reading my explanation but you are bound to get more indepth answers from other people in the forum.

Cheers,

Re: Clutch Cancel button

If you are on a steep hill it allows you to start the vehicle without using the clutch. Usually someone would use it while wheelin' in 4 low and you stall it, instead of risking rolling backwards when you try to start back up, you just leave the clutch engaged and start the vehicle with the key. It will lunge forward using the starter, but won't hurt it. I prefer to use the e-brake myself, I let off the e-brake as soon as I feel the clutch engage.

Re: Clutch Cancel button

The real reason for the clutch start cancel button is to use the starter motor to move the vehicle.

You leave the FJ in gear and hit the "clutch start cancel" button. Turn the key and allow the starter gear to move the truck a bit while the engine starts again.

You can also use the button if you are lazy!

Re: Clutch Cancel button

All my previous/current cars (SHO, STi, Supra) have had the clutch bypass to prevent crank walk. I use the clutch cancel switch every time I start the FJ.

Re: Clutch Cancel button

When stalled use your e brake and feather the clutch then release it...safety besides the clutch start!

Re: Clutch Cancel button

You all have it WRONG! According to the saleswoman I took the test drive with, the Clutch Cancel is "for when you wake up in the morning and are too tired to use the clutch to start the Fj, you just push in this button" True Story
