Hey I've got a few bucks to spend, I would like to use this truck for what it is worth, safely and wisely!
somewhere around the 5k range... I'm thinking 5k should get me up on a good start!, feedback on experienced drivers and users would be greatly appreciated!
I have a bit of baggage off wheeling, i had a Rubicon a few years back and have had a few crash courses but nothing extensive.
i was thinking you meant 5k miles on the FJ, haha.
Depends a little on the type of terrain you will encounter.
First off, i would go 3inch lift (either adjustables up front or Old Man EMU all around)
Then tires, mud terrain if you plan to wheel couple times a month, all terrains if maybe once a month.
Next, i would replace the bumpers with steel.
Then, add skids if you will see lots of rocks.
Develope your plan first. What do you use your vehicle for? What's your budget? What are you willing to compromise? Have a upgrade path planned so you don't have to undo mods.

Walker Evans adj. F&R reservoir shocks. Pro Links. AP F&R bumpers. Demello skid. Mile Marker SE9500C. Viking Trail Line. Super Swamper LTB 34s on Tacoma wheels. 305 MTR on Wheelers wheels. Trail Gear Sliders, Aeroflow, Lightforce Blitz 240, Powertank 10lb, Hi-Lift, Jack Mate, Pull-Pal.
You don't mention if you have the MT or automatic. First thing I would get on the Manual is the TRD quickshifter and then some good sliders and skid plates. It all depends on what type of off roading you want to do but sliders and skid plates are some of the most basic things you will need and they won't detract from the safety of the car.

08 FJC, Brick, Auto, Nitto Terra Grapplers (295), ATrac, Locker, Budbuilt skids and sliders, ToyTec 3" OME lift, Warn rear bumper with Lucrum Swingout Tire kit.
84 FJ-60, blue, body lift, BFG AT on oem steelies, Warn Hubs, mostly original
Good list but I would steer clear of the Kumhos.....Up here they don't get much of a name....Super soft compound. One of the dealers told me that I would be doing really good to get 30,000km (18,000mi) out of a set of their AT's or MT's. Ask around to see but I have never spoken to anyone that would ever buy a second set.

mods so far
Left Foot gas pedal, Silver Star Ultras, FJ Spare Tire Cover, FJ Canvas Storage, more FJ Forum Stickers (Ti), Cruiserland Plate Frames, K&N Drop In, Vent Shades, Extremetrucktoys 2" Lift, Garmin c340, aux interior lighting, passenger armrest, 265/70/17 Toyo Open Country
yeah, i have heard they wear fast but in my experience 30,000 with Mud Terrains is good.... but that is why I have the Nitto Terra Grapplers........got 50,000 on my last set on old truck.
I was just giving him options...on good mods for fair price....for big impact.

The best advice I can give you, HOLD on to your money first. Take some time and really run your vehicle off road bone stock, get a "FEEL" of how well it handles and preforms. Put it through its paces. This will give you a good "BASE LINE" to start from, don't just run out and start buying stuff and bolting it on.
Put your money where it will be best used for your type of driving and terrian. Take your time and look at all the suspensions. This will help you in the long run, good luck.

I agree with this except for the skids. Buy you some Buds, you can't go wrong with them. Everything else you need to look at where you live and what type of driving you plan on doing. I live in the Alabama and here you need a good set of mud tires, skids and a lift. I need sliders for going to other places but not really necessary. I will also be buying a front bumper and winch. After that it all for show.
