In addition to all of the above excellent responses (good info, Montana), 4x4 Low Range also forces your truck to go slow . . . . where in rigorous terrain conditions, speed can be a deadly enemy. The motto for safe and effective off-road driving is "as slow as possible and only as fast as necessary."
