Re: Synthetic oil?

i use mob 1 with a fram tough guard filter...i drive off road in sand to get to my house and 2k miles a month and have to change oil and filter once a mo...it comes out "lightly used" best oil ever....put through alot of engine stress in the sand....never running anything different

Re: Synthetic oil?

This would be a great poll question! What type oil do you run and how often do you change it!

Re: Synthetic oil?

I have been told that Synthetic oil helps you in the higher rpm's cause the molecules hold together better than regular "old school" oil, but ive also been told that you have to let your vehicle warm up longer to get them to bind like no other oil. So it depends on wether you let your vehicle warm up for a minute, or five? I do have a question though... Oil turn black "dirty looking" after running 3000 miles what would keep synthetic from not doing the same? The same parts are being rubbed by this oil in both cases would they get dirty at the same pace?

Re: Synthetic oil?

actually after 3k off road miles...with 5 or 60 hundred towing a car on a trailer (through sand) it comes out pretty used but not anymore than i would expect

Re: Synthetic oil?

I didn't change my oil for the first time untill 5,000 miles, this allows the engine to break in with the correct tollarances. I then switched out to Mobile One on ALL Fluids, I change my oil every 5,000 miles and rotate my large MTs at the same time. I have used Mobile 1 for over 20 years in all my vehicles. I don't trust my engine or drive train with anything else myself. I have over 55,000 miles of the Raptor.

It is no longer a daily driver, It's just used for an off-road vehicle.

P.S. Make sure to use a Syn Filter too when switching. A stock Oil filter is NOT the same. Look in the tech section, there is plenty of threads on this topic.

From a Toyota dealer part's bulletin. My local dealer gave me a good deal on RP and also showed it to me. I'll try and get a copy and post it
