Cool Cb radio/ Gun rack questions.....

Well Im looking to install my old Galaxy 959 cb radio into the fj, but I have a few questions for those of you that have allready traveled this road. First off I purchased a "fully loaded" cruiser, so its got all the airbags and whatnot. I want to mount the cb radio in between the two visors on the ceiling BUT Im not sure if there is an airbag actually in the side pillar, or if its located in the headliner somewhere. I dont want to go pulling stuff apart to find out that there is an airbag in the pillar and have it deploy on me.....bad news......so if someone could help me out that also has all the airbags and can tell me where exactly they are located that would be great.
Onto the next question, have any of you fabricated up a mounting bracket that bolts into the rear view mirror holes, and if so could you send me a picture w/ some specs on that?? I know someone has, I saw it in their buildup, but I dont remember who! Oh yea I almost forgot, lets say you got the radio hooked up in the ceiling there and you got your coax and power cable all run down under the dash and its all fine and good....well where are you running the power cable too? In every vehicle I have ever owned I just pushed the power cable in to the radio fused and crammed the fuse back into that spot pinching the wire in there. So if anybody's got a better idea on that I would like to hear about it.
Ok last one here and I will leave you alone. As you all well know dove season is literally right around the corner, so I want to put some shotguns in the fj. I also plan on building a "cargo box" with slideout drawers that will take up most of the cargo area in the back (I think Corey was the guys name that made one of these, silver fj, pop up tent on top, arb bumper, neato car). Has anyone fashioned up some sort of fancy gun rack to go in the back of their fj? I've been kicking around some ideas like making some sort of "U" brackets that will stick up off the top of the box and allow the guns to slip into them so they cant move around, but this creates a problem because when Im not using the gun mounts I would like for the top of the box to be flush so that I can slide something in and out ontop of it (like a cooler) without it getting hung up. Also, I have a sub in the back so if your idea is to somehow run the guns across the top of the cargo area I cannot....because of the sub. Any input would be awsome, Id like to see some of your ideas.

P.S. - Im totally a new guy here, and not to forum savvy so if anybody "pm's" me messages of some sort.....uh well, (looks away and drags foot slowly across the floor back and fourth) Im not sure how to get that!

You should look into uphill's rig. he has a nice gun rack and you can see the wiring with the roof for his GPS.

I use to have a Galaxy 959. Somebody removed it from my possession during a move! Nice radio. Is it unlocked?

Re: Cb radio/ Gun rack questions.....

I bought a 959 with plans on putting it into my FJ... after looking at what was going to have to go into mounting that beast in there I canceled that idea and went smaller. More power to ya though in getting that walkin', talkin', beastie in there!

Perhaps this pic will give you some ideas for both of your questions . . . .

Nope, I kicked around the idea of having it "worked on," really what I always wanted to do is get a linear amplifier for it, but since the majority of its use will be for short range communication on the trial, I figure I really dont need it!

Thanks for the input! I've considered mounting the radio back there to the back of the console, but it seems like its in an awkward position to mess with. Do you have much trouble when driving tinkering around with the controls? As far as the gun goes I like the idea, did you totally remove the back seat? I really couldnt tell but that's what it looks like. I really want the gun to be out of the way in the "back" of the fj. I seem to be a bit of a procrastinator, and I'll be on a week long vacation to Colorado but once I get back I'll try to get it done and post some pictures of the result.

No problem accessing the controls at all. Since I'm pretty tall, I have the drivers seat all the way back, and that permits me to look straight down at the face of the CB.

Yep, since the rear seats were too tiny for my purposes, I completely removed them and built a modular storage box / sleep platform system. It's on the front face of the forward storage unit that I mounted the electric lock shotgun rack.

Ladies & gentlemen, may I present to you . . . the BOX.
