Does Paint Color Matter?

Let me start off by saying that I fully realize the color does not make any difference with the vehicle. Here is my situation, I have decided I am going to buy a FJ. Now I need to decide what color. A buddy of mine, has a black jeep and complains, the black paint is very susceptible to scratches. I think the Black FJ are very sharp and wanted to know if it was just his paint job, or if black paint jobs in general scratch easily? Any thoughts would be appreciated…

Re: Does Paint Color Matter?

my blk FJ scratchs REALLY easily. Looks great when clean but terrible to keep clean and polished. If I bought another I would buy a sunfushion yellow FJ IMO. Welcome to the forum btw!!!

Re: Does Paint Color Matter?

Welcome to the forum phatdrew. Of the posts that I read, what I found is that it seems voodoo blue owners report more paint chips. Whether this has to do with wheeling style or not, I can't conclude. I'm a voodoo blue owner and I did notice quite a few paint chip. Though most of them seem to have occurred in the earlier stages of ownership. Maybe it just takes longer to cure. No idea. Just letting you know!

Re: Does Paint Color Matter?

I have a black FJ, and because of the white undercoat have to say the scratches do show a lot more than on say a silver one. If your worried about scratches showing get a white TT version. I don't know how bad scratches show on the Blue or yellow, only the posers have them colors around here. I'm guessing the black cherry is the same as the Black for scratches. If you want it for speed, get the black, as every ones knows black cars are the fastest.

Welcome to the forums BTW.

Well, considering the color lineup for 07, id say it made a huge difference!

But seriously, black is always impossible to maintain with perfection on any vehicle... Much less one that you are supposed to off-road with. I used to detail cars, and drove a black one that was like a mirror with wheels. It took constant maintenance. But man, was she beautiful.

This explains why I chose silver. I could still put parts on it that were black, so it scratched the itch, so to speak. However, word on the street is that for 09 we will have a gunmetal grey. or whatever they call it. id wait for that

yeah, I would guess that scratches are alot less visible. If you have some extra cash then go with a TT if you never want to see them. Im sure you could get a killer deal these days.

Re: Does Paint Color Matter?

My FJ used to be Black Cherry and I'd see the trail rash from far away. People at the train station thought I got keyed big time. ...

Silver is the best (for hiding scratches). Its what I chose. I have a thread on it if you want to see it.

Re: Does Paint Color Matter?

I just coat mine with a layer of dust or mud. It hides everything pretty well.
