In Dash DVD Receivers

Hello All! I'm planning on changing my stock stereo for an in dash dvd. My question is are there any that you can detach when not using it. I'm worried about spending money and having someone break into it. Thanks.

Re: In Dash DVD Receivers

I dont think their are any however you could purchase one that folds in when turned off meaning it will look just like a regular radio. I choose to just tint the front windows to 5%

Re: In Dash DVD Receivers

While we won't be focusing on DVD playback only, in the October issue of FJC Magazine we'll be comparing In-Dash NAV options if you're not in a hurry.

Re: In Dash DVD Receivers

In dash dvd players are way too small for me. I'm trying to figure out a way to mount a portable dvd player to the dash. Once i fugure it out and do it i'll post pics. Sorry i can't recommend one.

Re: In Dash DVD Receivers

PIONEER make a 6.5" retractable touch screen dvd player. the model is about 2 years old. (avhp5700dvd) I think the newer model comes with nav.A small piece of the face comes off and is deck specific, so if it is stolen it is not reusable. Doesn't help much but with the small face piece off a red alarm light is visible and flashing.
You also will need to install an override switch to watch with the vehicle in anything but park. It is pretty simple to do.Hope this helps-

Re: In Dash DVD Receivers

I have a Pioneer AVIC-Z1, it is a double din 7" screen with a 30 gig hard drive, I just updated the software to Z3, it has 2008 maps built in so you don't have to have a NAV disk (means you can watch a DVD wile using the NAV). It also have a tv turner, bluetooth, voice controls, sirius, XM, back up camera, disk changer, 3 AV source inputs, duel zone capable (aka the headrest monitors can do what your passengers want seporate from the headunit) and iPod inputs avaible. I can still use my steering wheel controles.

The 7" screen is perfect size, AVIC-Z is your best bang for your buck. Well a lot of bucks (~$3,500ish after all the extra gagets), it took me 4 hours to install (I have been installing radios in cars for a long time, it was really difficult install but totally worth it) it looks great, clean and factory looking. The screen is a touch screen which is super brite and detailed. With the hard drive you can upload your CDs and never have to bring them with you plus it stores the album name and song names. I have about 90 CDs on mine and it is only 60% full.

I talked to my insurance (Allstate) company after I got it and they said it would be covered if it got ripped off. I have full coverage on my FJ.
