No where to wheel !!

Ok guys need some help on an issue.

all over this forum it says I need to drive about 10 miles or 16 km in 4x4 a month just to keep things "lubed" correct ??

Well I really don't have any where to do this and now i'm getting worried, I know it is a huge mistake to stick it in 4Hi on dry ashphalt or pavement but how else am I suppossed to keep things lubed up??

I was planning on using the 4x4 a lot when the friggin Canadain Winters show up, I mainly bought a 4x4 because of the amount of snow we recieve between oct/nov --> april/may. I assure you 4x4 will be used.

What am I suppossed to do in the mean time??

Is it really that bad to just drive in a straight line in 4Hi on the street ??

I have read the owners manual over and over and it doesn't say anything about it, but then I come on here and read about "Binding" which just sounds awful.

Please help me out with some alternatives if there are any or just confirm that 4Hi driving on dry ashphalt is BAD.

Thanks in Advance.

Any gravel road, dirt road will do. You just need a surface where the tires can slip if they need to.

Re: No where to wheel !!

x2 just pull off on some dirt road or gravel road and ease it along, or on a rainy down pour slow to 50mpy at least and choose 4 hi. or stop and move to 4 hi.

Agreed....

If nothing else find a nice straight road that is less traveled and put it in 4H for a decent stretch. DO NOT TURN IN 4H THOUGH!! Just drop into 2H before making any turns.

Re: No where to wheel !!

One more thing, when I first bought the truck and I was driving home I was waiting at a light and wanted to pull down on the 4x4 shifter, just having fun playing around.

I was fully stopped and went to pull down from 2Hi to 4Hi it was very tough like it had locked up and I really had to put some muscle behind it for it to come down to 4Hi after I did it 2-3 times it was very smooth.

I find it gets very tough from time to time when I don't use the 4x4 shifter, is this normal???

should I be moving it to keep it smooth, I've gotten in the habit of doing it while I'm stopped at a light at least once a day or before I leave my driveway in the morning.

I'm not driving in 4Hi mind you, just shifting back and forth once or twice while stopped foot on brake Truck in Drive to keep it from getting tough to shift again.

Should I stop doing this, am I causing any issue by doing this ??

Thanks in advance.

You won't hurt a thing stopping and putting it from Hi to Lo and working the lever. If you have a drive way put in low and back up 20' or 30' and then go forward the same distance. Use Hi range and as you move along at a slow roll and shift to neural then down to low and back up again. I find this keeps things lubed inside and everything stays easy to move selector.

Now I live in a concrete jungle and I can find sand and yards, parks, right aways to 4wheel it. Sometimes you gotta take a chance and go for it

Re: No where to wheel !!

Where do you live? There HAS TO BE a dirt/gravel/lava rock/sand stretch of road within 20 miles of your house. It's statistically impossible that you don't have even a bit of wet grass you can drive on.
