Smile Propeller shaft bolt?

We usually do all our own maintenance on our vehicles, but according to the maintenance schedule we must check torque on the propeller shaft bolt.

I couldn't find any reference to this in the owners manual. Anyone know where this is, and what torque it should be?

Thanks!

where did you get this maintenance manual? Are you sure you didnt confuse it with your boat? The only think that resembles a propeller is the Radiator fan. Thats all I can think of...

Propeller shaft=drive shaft.

Re: Propeller shaft bolt?

I'm sure it wasn't a boat, although I did wonder about the water worthiness of my FJ. Thought maybe it was part submarine.

This is the maintenance schedule that came with my FJ. The salesman tried to get me to buy a maintenance package - for a few thousand, of course. That would include all the maintenance up to 100,000 miles. I didn't think it would be worth it, but I do wonder about that propeller bolt?

Re: Propeller shaft bolt?

Yeah, Toyota calls the drive shafts a propeller shaft. The bolts connecting all the sections need to be checked regularly, they can vibrate loose... I've had this happen, it can get ugly if they come all the way off. I caught mine with 1 bolt left before the drive shaft fell off onto the road.. once it hits the road it gets real bad real fast, you are talking thousands in possible damage. That's why they want them checked.

I don't know the specs though for the FJ, I havn't gotten a service manual yet. You can allways call a dealer service department, they should be able to look up the spec for you.

Re: Propeller shaft bolt?

You can also order the Factory Service Manual (a.k.a. FSM) from the Toyota Materials Distribution Center. It costs more than a Haynes or Chilton manual, but it is much more in depth and detailed with the illustrations.
