Question Noob Tire and Wheel Questions

Believe me, I tried searching for the answers but got bits and pieces; I'm sure there's a thread with all this info but I've given up. Would like to confirm the following:

1. If you don't choose any Upgrade Packages, you'll have black steel wheels and P265/70R17 Bridgestone Mud & Snow Tires.

2. If you choose the UP or UR packages, you'll have aluminum wheels (AL) and P265/70R17 BF Goodrich AT tires.

3. If you choose an Upgrade Package AND the 6-spoke TRD Alloy option (WB), you'll still have the same BF Goodrich AT tires, only with a better wheel and wheel locks.

So the stock tire choices are the Bridgestones and the BF Goodriches? And investing $1500-1800 in the WB option gets you fancier wheels - does the WB option help in offroading, or is it purely for looks?

Thanks guys.

Re: Noob Tire and Wheel Questions

1. No, 'cause you can order just the alloys as a stand-alone option... I don't know if you can/will find any FJ's with just the alloys and not the upgrade 1 or 2 package unless someone cancels their order. You can order just the alloys if you want to special order.

Re: Noob Tire and Wheel Questions

Also, I don't know anything about the tire options you mention, but stock for me with steelies and alloys (I have a full set of both) came with Bridgestone Dueler H/T D840's.

You WILL see a lot of port installed tire and wheel packages though. This is where you might find BFG AT's or something like that.

Re: Noob Tire and Wheel Questions

No BFG's unless you get the TRD 16" Wheel package. The UP and UR packages still have the crappy Bridgestone Duellers or the Dunlop Grandtreks. Other than that, sounds like you have the idea. The 16" TRD Wheels will give you more sidewall since they are 16's, however, it's a very spendy option. I like the look, though.

Re: Noob Tire and Wheel Questions

She is in FL, so strong potential it's SET and a port job.

Up here in The ATL they like to stick shiney BBS and Pirelli's on 'em...

Re: Noob Tire and Wheel Questions

I got the Upgrade#2, so I got the 17" wheels with the Grandtrek AT20's. These tires are junk.
