Holes in my roof

Need some help here. Just bought my cruiser two days ago and discovered that the roof rack mounting holes are uncovered! I can see the sun through my headliner inside.Forget about takink it thru tha car wash. Looks to me that the dealer took it off and did not cover it. To anyone W/O a roof rack, what do you have in place of it? Do your roof moldings run from front to back in one piece, or is it made up of several smaller pieces ? The dealer is clueless, and I know any parts they order will take forever to come in. Thanks

Re: Holes in my roof

There are supposed to be metal plates at each mount location along with 2 bolts and a matching molding cover... GET BACK TO THE DEALER and have it Corrected ASAP !!!!

Re: Holes in my roof

The only thing I can think of is that there was a rack on it, they removed it and didn't put back small metal plates with 2 bolts. Are the small white covers on it about 3 to 4 inches long?

Re: Holes in my roof

Yes Toots and the Maytalls, and yes I can see sunlight coming in through the headliner. I also have wicked wind noise that comes thru at highway speeds-thats what prompted me to look on the roof. My moldings are in several seperate pieces. The mounting locations are appx. 1/2'' deep with two exposed bolt holes each. A couple holes still had the rubber washers attached. I think I'm screwed. I bought this from a dealer 300 miles away. I just wanted to know what to tell them to do, or what the fix is. Thanks-

Re: Holes in my roof

First, Pop the Covers off and get some small pieces of duck tape over them holes !!!...

Go Here for Instructions on the Rack ===> Rack Instructions

BTW - The Molding on All FJC are in scections, plus there will be three mounting positions on each side for the rack...

Re: Holes in my roof

Hey IM me you’re mailing address, I put on an aftermarket rack and I think I saved the plates and plastic covers. There should be no bolt holes showing!

If you didn't get the rack it comes with a plate held on by two bolts with rubber seals and a plastic cover over the plate. I had to use the rubber seals for my rack install but I'm sure you can get something that would work at the hardware store, or use some silicone, anything would be better than open holes.

Yikes, I didn’t even realize I had two accounts! That explains some of my confusion when I first started posting. I haven’t been on this computer in a while and didn't notice it auto logged me in under that old account. IM this one (LV TLC not LVTLC)

Re: Holes in my roof

Get some short bolts and neoprene washers. The bolts for the roof rack are M8 x 43 mm, but without the rack these might be too long. I suggest a length of 20-25 mm. Install these until you get back to the dealer for the proper cover plates. If you are in a rain storm or wash your vehicle, just be sure to sponge up any standing water.
