Let me go out on a limb here...but maybe becasue it LOOKS GOOD?
Plus steel wheels are more tolerable to harsh use. They bend rather than break. And are easily re-painted in the event of scuffs usually caused by off-road use. I suppose you could paint them Jeep red if you wish...
And there's a chrome shortage these days. The H-D boys have a strong hold on that stuff. That and fringe.

I went with the black steelies because I can beat them up on the trail and not worry about them breaking. Sure they will bend but a little hammer work and a rattle can and they are good to go. Spending a fortune on alloys only to trash them makes no sense for my use. To each his own.

I really like the white letter out with black rim look. I may switch out my MT/R to have the white letters out. Give it a little more contrast.
