I like black because it looks meaner than silver. Plus the steelies came in black. You are correct in your belief that they are the cheap wheels, thats the best thing about em. You can beat up a rim that costs 2000 bucks or one that costs 25. For my wallet I'll go with the 25, also for the before mentioned feature that you can sledge hammer em back if they bend. try doing that with alloys.
I come from Jeep land and have never heard of this. It seems like you guys are all about and only about black wheels. What's up with that? Is it an FJ thing? Or, is it something that someone here at this forum started and you guys are all playing follow the leader? It sure isn't a Jeep thing!
Just curious.
Welcome to the FJ world. The black steelies are actually the factory stock wheels that come on the base model FJ's without any of the fancy packages.

From another former Jeeper.....I don't off-road a lot, just rural livin', so I won't be changing to black steel for the time being. Happy with the stock rims. Regardless of the color, if you are going for the look, it just needs to work with the whole vehicle. Black is popular for now, but it always changes. I've seen FJs w/ black rims and they looked great, and others looked pretty bad. Remember the craze of white spoke steel rims a while back? Bet they come back too.
