First i'd like to say what an awesome forum this is, I just reached 10,000 miles in my 08 FJ and will be performing my second oil change but wanted to ask how many quarts are you guys putting in when changing your oil.
First oil change I went with Mobil 1 and will do so again. I just changed the air cabin filter(it was disgusting), thanks to the forums here I did it myself and saved a few bucks.
Again, thank you all for the input.

Sorry man, but did your FJ come with an owners manual? "With filter = 5.5 qt / Without filter = 5.2 qt"

See the problem is that when I went to the dealer to buy the oil and asked the gentleman who sold me the oil as to how many quarts is needed he sold me 7 bottles which I too asked him that's not what the manual says so he called the guys where they change the oil and they said 7 so that's why I'm asking what you guys as to what are you putting in so there is no wrong doing on my behalf just like some are running premium fuel and some not but on the fuel cap there it says use premium yet some only use regular. I apologize, I guess I should've stated why I'm asking that question and yes, I am still a newbie to this whole FJ thing.
With filter. 5.5 quarts.
Without filter. 5.2 quarts. Do the with filter change. I understand your questioning. The first 3 oil/filter changes I had the dealer do them. First 2 changes 5 liters = 5.2 quarts. the 3rd 6 liters= 6.34 quarts. They don't have a clue.

Thanks folks, just finished changing the oil with mobil 1 and I went with the OEM Toyota filter instead of the Mobil 1 this time and I did not hear a ticking sound like I did with the Mobil 1 this time and as far as size goes, the Toyota one is a bit bigger than the Mobil1 filter. I will stick with the Toyota one from now on, it just feels good to treat the FJ with some fresh new juice... exactly with 5.5 as recommended.
On another note, now because of you guys as I look into my engine bay and think that I'm getting the mod bug....maybe I'll start out with a TRD cold air intake....or do you guys recommend a snorkel type intake, mind you I live in Miami FL, and this will be the main vehicle when we start having floods during hurricane season plus the snorkel effect looks pretty wicked, any pointers, no I have yet to go off roading...

Thanks for the info, but yeah, they don't have a clue and that is why I believe in do it yourself and I strongly will support such forums as this, its because of you guys that I am learning quite a bit and becoming more knowledgeable about this ride. I have all those buttons inside and still have no clue as to how/when to use them but little by little I'm picking them up, I'm waiting for the right time to meet up with some folks down here to go offroading with them so that I may learn how to do it myself and hopefully pass what I learn along.
What intimidates me is that my ride is bone stock so I wonder how I will do on the trails compared to the all out jacked up,big wheeled, full customized this and that trucks seen on here...
I just did my first oil change at 5,000 miles (Castrol Syntec 5W30 and K&N filter). I used 5 quarts and it appeared full (though it was hard to tell where the level was even after a quick drive). A few days later I checked again and the oil level was about halfway between the two marks ("dots") on the dipstick.
I checked the owner's manual and it says the top mark is the full so I added another 1/2 quart bring it to that mark and my total oil change amount to 5 1/2 quarts.
