Need Help 07 TRD or 09 no TRD?

Ok, so I'm new here, but have read thru a ton of threads. I'm currently looking at 2 trd models one with 40k miles and they want $24k and the other has 31k miles and they want $29k. I haven't really negotiated w/ either.

My question is, should I go for one of these TRD models or should I buy a new 2009 black one for around $30k? I really like the black on black, but not sure if it's worth the extra $$. Can you trd owners chime in? Is it worth it or should I just go new?

Thanks for any help and hopefully, I'm an FJ owner soon!

Check build dates for problems with the rear diff. My money would probably be going for the newer model just to avoid this issue. If you go with the 07, look for warranty for that diff.

Honestly the TRD doesn't give you anything special. I would get a used FJ on this forum that has already been moded and then just paint the roof black if thats what you want.

Re: Need Help 07 TRD or 09 no TRD?

It all depends how much color matters to you and on the flipside how much you want a brand new one... My only thought is the one listed at 24k would give you the color you're wanting as well as a lower payment and might allow you to budget more $ for mods. Oh and another thought I guess - if it were me, I would not pay $29k for a used FJ with 31k miles when I could get a new one for about $30k.

Good luck with the search, I'm sure you'll end up with one that you will enjoy!!

Agreed, that's a good point.

Re: Need Help 07 TRD or 09 no TRD?

The TRD gives you the atrac synch'd locking rear diff. It wasn't available in any other model in the early 07s. Other than that... the TRD has a black roof, wheels, special foor mats, and some badges. Unless you are looking to baby it and hope for a collector someday, it's usually not a good deal?

From what you were just listing... you're wasting your money. Get a new one and start with a fresh warranty.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I def think the $24k is a better deal, espec if I can get them down to $22 or so. I would have to ship that one though. I sent that link to the dealer here in Charlotte and asked if he would match it. We'll see. So what is the deal on the rear diff? That scares me now! One was manufactured on 1/23/07 and the other was 2/3/07.

Re: Need Help 07 TRD or 09 no TRD?

Those prices seem high. I paid $23K for my 2007 when it had 13K miles on it.... 4WD, atrac, diff, subwoofer, etc... The TRD is mostly cosmetic. It's up to you, but i would almos always want a new car over a used car. But that depends on price. Good luck with your purchase. You will probably get a ton of different opinions. All valuable in their own way.

TRD SchmeeRD.

SAve your pennies and buy a base model FJ, this way you can buy what accesories you want, not what some clown at the dealer wants. Just make sure you get on with a rear locker.
