2010 FJ TT from the great Garden State

Hi All,

When I was a kid I watched the movie "The Gods Must be Crazy" in India and I was so fascinated by the off road adventures of the Land Rover (I don't know the brand at that time). At that moment, I decided I will buy a similar vehicle
when I grow up.

My dream came true after 29 years. Now I am proud owner of 2010 Trail teams FJ. I am very happy to join you all.

But I have a problem I never drove a 4X4, I need some help.

I am confused by the second gear shaft with H4, H2, L4 and N markings.

I have done some research on these settings, but couldn't get it. Please note I read the manual and also read some of the posts on these forums. I would appreciate if any of you can answer the following questions :

1) Is it possible to turn off 4X4 or AWD?

2) If (1) is not possible - Do I need to drive my FJ in H2 under normal road conditions? For example, I want to drive this vehicle to Washington DC next weekend for a long drive just to enjoy my FJ.

Thank you all.

Re: 2010 FJ TT from the great Garden State

Congrats on the new FJ. Oh ya, that movie is a classic.

Yes keep it in 2H unless offroad or in snow on the roads. 2H is 2 wheel drive high range.

4H is 4 wheel drive high range for higher speed driving on soft roads. 4L will be 4 wheel drive low range for low speed driving when max traction is needed. In 4L you can lock the rear diff or engage ATRAC for crawling over rocks and such.

I really think you should find a 4wd club near you or get with other FJs in your area to learn how to use all that your FJ has to offer.

Good luck to ya.

Re: 2010 FJ TT from the great Garden State

welcome fellow Joysian.

as for your questions...

your tt should be running in rear wheel drive unless you move the "second gear shaft" known as the transfer case. You can shift it to 4H if you encounter something other than dry pavement. 4 Low is a little more complicated and you should re read the owners manual section on where and when to use it.

good luck with your tt.

Re: 2010 FJ TT from the great Garden State

I and my spouse were so amazed by the passion of this FJCruiser community, we never expected such a quick response. We were amazed and we were proud to be owners of such a passionate vehicle. We never new that a thing or object can be so emotional.

I visited the FJ Northeasters and I will there on the Nov 28th. -- Thank you "fj in nepa". Can I consult anybody in my area to clear my doubts? Is it ok to contact you through email or personal message?

Just to make my self sure, it is the right way to drive with the ":4WD Drive Indicator On" with H2 for normal road conditions and long drives. There is no other option such as turning off 4WD Indicator.

I am open to take some lessons to make myself familiarize with 4X4 driving. Any good driving schools in NJ?

Thak you all.
