Purchasing 2010 TT next week. Searching for info, please chime in!

Hello all! I am new to the forum, and the world of the FJ. I decided to purchase a 2010 TT next week, and was hoping to get input from all of you experienced FJ owners on all aspects of my decision. I saw it in the showroom of a local dealer a few days ago and took it for a test drive. After that I have been doing a lot of reading on forums and really think that this will be a great vehicle for me.

A little info about me: I don't do much 4wheeling for fun, but I do a lot of hunting requiring a bit of offroading at times, and plan to work my way into some camping expeditions again in the off season. I have always owned a 4x4, but never a Toyota and am very excited to drive it off the lot!

I guess I am just fishing around for ideas that might help me get a better deal on my purchase, equipment that I should look for from the dealer vs. equipment I would be better off getting later. Also wanted to get some opinions on the towing capabilities of the FJ. I am not anticipating any problems towing a trailer with a couple ATV's on it, but am fairly curious how you all think it would handle a decent sized bass boat.

Was also looking for an answer to this riddle.... At the dealership I noticed the FJ TT I looked at did not have any floor mats in it, and figured that they had just not put them in yet as it is part of the package. When I inquired into them, I was told that due to an accident that the mats had caused when someone got one caught on their gas pedal, Toyota had recalled them nationwide. This story sounds kinda fishy, well frankly down right rediculous, but in todays world who knows......... ???

Thanks to all who respond. Glad to be a part of the forum. Can't wait to join everyone with my new toy !

the FJ is a very capable 4x4 rig out of the box on most easy to moderate trails that should get you to your favorite hunting and fishing spots. it can also be turned into a very capable rig for more serious 4x4.

The A-trac and e-locker really make getting unstuck easy. After that it sort of depends on how nuts you want to go.

everyone who i know that tows is very pleased with the FJC's performance.

and the whole mat thing sounds pretty goofy reaction... especially since they come with hooks that keep them from moving around. Well at least in 2007 they did and I don't know of a change there. you should be able to pick up some used ones or after market ones.

Good luck

Yes, Toyota/Lexus has had a bad run with floormats and are in litigation where crashes have occurred. Might be overkill in taking the FJ mats out as I think the mats in question were predominately in Camry's, Corollas and Lexus.

Toyota is very conservative and probably just over-reacted by pulling the FJ mats. No biggee, if your a hunter you'll want to get Husky liners anyway, they provide much more protection than stock mats.

I'd put a deposit and get a receipt/work order for that TT stat, it might disappear.

P.M. me for whatever you question you've got. I've had mine for three weeks and love it, photos, whatever. Heres what you're not getting.

1) As shown in the photos the 2010 does not come standard with a tow package.
2) As shown in the photos the 2010 does not come standard with front and rear skid plates. However is has some welded plates under something, and plastic under the fuel tank.
3) 2010 does not come with All weather (rubber) floor mats, recalled.
4) As advertised being all blacked out, well all but the trim directly above the hitch receiver on the back.
5) I think thats it, I may have missed something.

The TT is very capable of doing the task of hunting and fishing including towing a big bass boat ( 21ft) the floor mats are on recall because of recent accidents
I would buy all of my gear for the FJ aftermarket from the forum vendors
good luck on your purchase post up pic's when you get it

Re: Purchasing 2010 TT next week. Searching for info, please chime in!

I picked up my TT on Oct 26 and the salesman (very professional) went ahead and ordered a set of regular carpet FJ floor mats for me as the all-weather TT mats are being redesigned and won't be available for 60+ days or so. The parts manager and general sales manager didn't want to fork them over when they came in but I was able to get them at no cost after calling the 800 complaint line in California. The mid-level managers were not using any common sense. No reason to fork out for Wal-Mart mats when you just bought a new FJ TT. The squeaky wheel gets the grease approach. I'm really enjoying my TT and I'm sure you will also.

Re: Purchasing 2010 TT next week. Searching for info, please chime in!

The big decision for me was buying a automatic or manual transmission. I chose the manual because it comes (for some reason) with automatic 4 wheel drive and the automatic doesnt. I figured that most of the time when driving in bad conditions you want automatic 4 wheel drive. Did some research and found that the manual transmission is almost as capable for off road driving as the auto transmission.

Re: Purchasing 2010 TT next week. Searching for info, please chime in!

Thanks for all the input everyone! Purchased my new TT the day before Thanksgiving. Will get some pics up soon. Can't wait to start adding accessories to it!

So far I am loving it! Got a quick question about the daytime running lights: I went to drive through christmas light show last night and couldn't figure out if there was a way to shut the auto driving lights off. Everything I read in the manual leads me to believe that the only way is to disconnect the headlights which is what I ended up doing. I thought maybe I could run with the parking break on just enough to kill them, but they still wouldn't go off and I don't really like that method anyways. Trying to find out as I like to be able to kill my lights when I'm sneaking into the hunting property in the morning. Any input? Thanks.
