I was told by Toyota that I don't need to use Premium gas in my FJ. Then I read that Toyota Japan has sent out a memo that Regular gas is okay to use. Now I am confused, the salesman says the gas between regular and premium is the best????????????????? can anybody throw some light on this, in the mean time I am using premium. Help!!

I have 3000 miles on mine and have used nothing but regular. They say premium only because the mpg is higher with premium and it helps Toyota meed minimum mpg mandates.
My last two vehicles I purchared new and drove over 300,000 miles I ran regular and Mercedes said premium only. I had two ML320's.

Toyota can't force you to use any grade of gasoline.

The only thing is if you notice your truck knocking--then you should use a higher grade of gas (but even then Toyota still can't force you to use Premium).

Use Regular and see if you like it.

Odds are you won't notice a difference.

Might I suggest this um... "entertaining" thread?
Perhaps you should prepare a rather LARGE bag of popcorn first?

BUWHAHAHAHAHA!

3000 on her now and have mostly used 87, sometimes 89 when I plan on working her a little. No problems noticed, no sign of knocking, pinging, low power, poor idle etc.
Picked up this bulletin from the dealer a few weeks ago.

Got Muck???????????
The owner's manual reads;

OCTANE RATING

Select premium unleaded gasoline with an Octane Rating of 91 (Research Octane Number 96) or higher for optimum engine performance.

Use of unleaded gasoline with an octane rating or research octane number lower than stated above will cause persistent heavy knocking. If it is severe, this will lead to engine damage.

I've used 87 octane and once and haven't noticed "persistent heavy knocking". I haven't had any knocking.

Well, They Said Using 87 Octane Is Acceptable, Then You Purchased An Acceptable Vehicle, With Acceptable Horsepower.
You Can Use Acceptable Regular Fuel.
I'll Stick With My Premium Fuel . My Oppinion Is , When You Have Something With Big Potential, Then Use It All, That's What You Paid For. I'm Not Trying To Face Anybody And I Respect Their Suggestions, This Is Only My Point Of View.
Thanks People.

ive used only premium 93octane so far.thers only 20 cents a gallon difference from premium down to regular 87 but Im will to bet if you say put 15 gallons in of premium at 20 cents thats 3.15. or 1 gallon difference you will get more than 19 or 20 miles or 1 gallon! premium will get you more miles per tank not many more but its a wash as far as price!!!
