So, My buddy Bryan and I are going to make a run up towards Uncle Tom's Cabin this weekend. Uncle Tom's Cabin is off of Wentworth springs road between Georgetown and the Rubicon Trail. There should be some good snow on it this time of year and we're going to see if we can make it up there. The idea is to do a loop with a few stops along the way.
We will be leaving out of Sly park on Saturday morning around 9~10AM and taking the scenic route by way of El Dorado nat'l forest roads between HWY 50 and Wentworth Springs Road. There will be a stop at Slate Mountain Lookout along the way which has great views of the entire central valley. (you can see Sutter Buttes and the coastal range from the lookout on a clear day...) A quick drive by Stumpy meadows reservior, and then on to Uncle Tom's Cabin.
The driving will be mostly a mix of paved, dirt, and gravel forest roads with some snow and mud thrown in for fun. If we can make it past Uncle Tom's cabin we will might try a run up to Loon Lake (Gateway to the Rubicon) and then return down Ice House road back to HWY 50. For those that don't mind a long day we may stop at Los Hermanos mexican restaurant in Pollock Pines for dinner.

We will be meeting at the Safeway in Pollock Pines off of HWY 50 at Sly Park Rd. (exit 60, and on the north side of 50) between 9 and 10am. The idea is to leave at 10 am sharp. I will most likely roll into the Safeway parking lot at 9:45, I'll be in the titanium FJ and my buddy in the sunburst yellow.
Also, those not interested in making it a whole day can bug out at the halfway mark and head back down Wentworth Springs rd. to Geogetown and on to HWY 50.
scroll down to the "Quarter Quad Index" map and click on the quad you want to print. It will pop up as a PDF file. If you have a good printer you can print up adjoining quads and tape them together for a very nice trail map complete with topograph.
The quads we will be wheeling in:
Pollock Pines (north east and north west quads)
Slate Mountain (north east and south east quads)
Tunnel Hill
Devil Peak
Robbs Peak
and some more pics for fun...

Yup, there's a Shell station just across the corner from Safeway. I'll be bolting a pair of sliders on in the morning so I'll hit Safeway around 9:45~10.
See you tomorrow.....

Wil, Thanks for making it up, it was nice to meet you. Weather was great, and I don't think you could ask for a better day. The wheeling wasn't all that technical but we did get to play in a few puddles and did finally find some snow. Also got a chance to check out Loon lake.
103 miles total round trip. I think treknwil will post up more pics. He had a much nicer camera 1 pic from Slate mountain Lookout, and another from Wentworth Springs Road looking towards the crystal range and the Rubicon.
First, Thanks to Rubicon for the guided tour . Had a great time and nice to meet everyone. Here are some pics. The look out Rubicon getting alittle Help Loon Lake
