Re: El Dorado National Forest Route Designation Meetings
8/2 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm Public Meeting Draft EIS Release Concord - Pleasant Hill Recreation Center, 320 Civic Drive, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
I'll be there. if anyone needs directions or would like to get a beer after the meeting hit me up it has been awhile since we all hung out off the trail! I know of a few bars in that area (hic, j/k) just got back from one of my hangouts that's two miles or less from there
Re: El Dorado National Forest Route Designation Meetings
More fuel for the fire. Look at the differences between the alternative plans the FS is proposing. Alternative A is in there minds not a possibility. Alt. D is the one they are pushing for. http://pd.global.playstream.com/SOC/...ive/trails.swf
Re: El Dorado National Forest Route Designation Meetings
I gotta work and can't go, but good luck to everyone who is going. I get the feeling though that this is all for show and it allows them to say 'we gave the opposition an opportunity...'
Keep fighting the good fight though. Sometimes you say the right thing at the right time and it dawns on them that maybe what you said did make sense, and there is an alternative to the drastic measures they are proposing.
Unfortunately, my vocabulary and speech patterns include a lot of profanity when I realize that I am up against some stiff collared sonofa***** that is not so open minded as myself...
Re: El Dorado National Forest Route Designation Meetings
there was a good turnout tonight. i'd estimate 260, perhaps a bit more.
it was good to see both club and individual representation there. unfortunately, the answers to most of the questions were of the "i don't the answer off the top of my head," or "if you refer to the chapter 3 of the document," or "let us know specifically, which trails you are referring to and we'll take it into consideration" variety.
however, there seemed to be a little glimmer of hope (or a silver lining, perhaps even wishful thinking if you will) in that the presenters saw how passionate people were about this issue. not only that, but they were presented with questions that made them think (or dare i say, look bad). the one question that stood out was whether or not they had looked into the economical impact these trail closures will have on the small town businesses that many ohv enthusiasts frequent during their stay/visit in the el dorado national forest. the answer was a definitive "no." again, it may be wishful thinking, but i'm hoping it made these folks think that they may need to really consider keeping plan a or, at the very least, something better than the preferred/proposed plan d.
there still is time to make a difference, but the effort needs to be concerted and the action swift. it does not take much time to write a letter or type an email, so please do what you can to make your voice heard.
btw, it was good to see some fj representation at the meeting.

Reason: added excluded words in the "economical impact" sentence.
