Re: Need help finding a place to live that is cheap

OOOH!! Now maybe you can help me. I just got a summons. Now while I am TOTALLY pro doing my civic duty (was the forewoman on a federal trial), now that I am a mommy with no childcare, there is no way. Plus the move to Germany...

Should I:

just postpone it?
ask to be excused based on the above?

And if they reject the request to excuse, can I still postpone? I know you can only do that once...

gracias!

I would asked to be excused, most trials are only three days, but I was facing a two week trial, and you never know, you could end up in a very long trial. They would probally excuse you if you did get on a panel, and you told the judge your circumstances. So either go, no postponement, and explain it to the judge, or ask to be excused. I have postponed twice befor, and usually get a summons six months later, which would be bad in you circumstance.

Ok, I just asked to be excused online. We shall see...

I heard some of the WORST excuses when I was on that jury! People are so funny/ lame.

The people in my lab actually told me to spout off some ultra conservative nonsense to get excused... losers. I had fun on that trial! VERY interesting, our judicial system...

personally, i would choose Eureka (Humboldt State alumni, Go Lumberjacks!). Given your criteria however, Placerville sounds good. what a great dilemma to have, good luck!

eureka/arcata is cool albeit green (no pun intended)...it's just wet a lot up there. although i did not go to school there (my best friend did), i enjoyed my times up there. i miss los bagels. jalapeno jelly...mmmmm.

auburn is pretty cool...another friend lives up there. just don't pick the wrong area (small part north of 80) to live.

slo is awesome. good weather, good vibe. i used to head down there every month during college to dj warehouse parties. fun times. good farmer's market too! and oceano dunes/pismo is down there also. just hope the diablo canyon plant doesn't meltdown.

good luck with your choice...i'm sure you'll end up in a good spot.

modesto is a good place to live. i live in stockton. not a bad place. just get used to some rift raft. i do really enjoy certain things about this town. things that you can only truly appreciate if you have lived in a big city before. you cant beat the central location though. i can head to the beach in an hour and a half from here, or i can head to the mountains in the same amount of time which i am doing tomorrow to ski.

redding sucks, eureka sucks, have family in both.

you dont want to live in angels camp either. hick town for sure. auburn and placerville are ok, but nothing like the valley. if you like the mountains but dont want to live directly in them, this is a good spot for you. lots of wheelers around this area.

When was the last time you were in the Angels Camp area? It's full of BMWs now... hardly a hick town any longer. And the prices are going UP. Still affordable, but not for long.

Okay, I live in the valley, I understand, what others don't. The valley is awesome. A little slw if you like raves, but if you like sitting on a porch drinking brews with good friends, a great place

I go through there every year. Bunch of rich, stoned hippies. The hicks got chased out about ten years ago. Still close to great camping and off roading.

You may want to consider Grass Valley
