Recommend a 4wd shop?

I'm looking to add a suspension lift in the near future. I won't be installing myself and would like to have it installed by a reputable shop. From peeking in the forum It looks like there are a bunch of good shops in SoCal, but what about Sacramento? Ive been to a couple places so far. Cental 4wd has the Downey suspension kit, but I'm not sure about the Downey because the rear sway bar has to be removed. Performance Car & Truck has the Truxx spacer kit but I dont want spacers. I noticed a place in Elk Grove called Donny's Garage reps Icons, has anyone had any luck with them, or anywhere else?

I use Family Adventure Outfitters in Vacaville. Neil, the owner, is a good guy. He has built several FJs. Give him a call and he can give you the pros and cons of different lifts.

I would go to C4WD, they can get you the OME kit which is a great lift at an afforable price and is what a lot of the Norcal folks run.

Re: Recommend a 4wd shop?

Thanks for the help. I'll check these places out. I cant wait to get a lift and some different tires. There's just so many options, it's very hard to pick which way to go.

I can't recommend them. I had an 06 Tacoma 3" Toytec lifted done there and had nothing but problems. Neil seemed like a nice guy but would not take responsibility for installer errors. Example: the truck was new, less then 10,000 miles. The day after the install, I took the truck to have alinement done, both CV boots were torn. Neil told me that the tearing of CV boots was caused by the extreme angle from the lift. (Remember it was only 3"). Told them to keep my OEM stuff, FAO tossed them. I ended up taking a look at everything that was installed. I found that the coils and leaf springs were install incorrectly. I can keep going on but I don't feel like writing a novel. To make Long story short, is that we ended up in court and I won the case.

Thanks for the Info! Please be sure to mention it in the ongoing thread about local shops.

I just had a great experience at central 4wd (after having a poor experience with another shop). Let me tell you what a huge difference!!! These guys spent half the day researching my problem, took pictures sent them to ARB had ARB comment on them, called me to verify what they were going to do ...all before begining on something! Their labor was more but if i don't have to go back to the shop the it ends up saving me money in the long run. I plan on going back there for any future work.
