Trails North of Sacramento

Hey all , reading the posts it look like allot of the Fj owners in on the NORCAL thread don't seem to reside to far north of the bay area. I ( obviously ) am in Chico. Aside from the trail listed on norTTORA, does anyone know of trails up my way? I have heard there are some around Redding and Cohasset but can't find much on the web. I found one listing of a Bear River off road and SUV course but can't find any pictures or discussion about it.

Re: Trails North of Sacramento

well theres a bunch of misc trails in the shasta trinity area (AWESOME camping)

iron mountain resivour comes to mind.

As far as chico I have never been up that way.

Just make sure whereever you go,

1)tread lightly
2)pack in what you pack out
3)make sure its LEGAL to wheel there.
Post up on the NorCalTTORA board and im sure people in your area will chime in.

Its important for us to follow these basic rules to keep our sport open to all for future generations (sorry for the rant)

Also, what kinda wheeling are you looking to do?

there are a few fav trails of mine that are not listed in the local wheeling section (mostly the tahoe area)

you are close to gold lake/downieville area..there are miles if trails up that way.

I dont think they are listed.

Goto the book store and pickup this book
the very first one on the page

CALIFORNIA 4X4, 4WD, OHV, & Jeep Roads & Trails Guidebooks, Books, Maps & Videos

this has damn near every know trail in CA.

except ones locals use to wheel which most the time are illegal anyway.

go get yourself lost with that book (dont wheel alone!)

Re: Trails North of Sacramento

x2 on the Guide to Northern Cali Backroads and 4WD trails, excellent book.

A few trails listed in your area are:
Stag Point
Cleghorn Bar
Poker Flat
Gold Valley (goes by Gold Lake)
Snake Lake
Deer Lake

Has a good description of each trail, a map of general area and some GPS coord's, also tells you if it's Easy, Moderate or Difficult.

Re: Trails North of Sacramento

The snake lake trail and many of the trails in the tahoe national forest are now off limits to motorized use. They are closing some of the BEST trails in NorCal.
This is why we need active offroad enthusiasts to get involved.

Snake lake is one of the greatest trails I have ever wheeled in that area!

Re: Trails North of Sacramento

I graduated from Chico State in 03. My buddies and I would go up Cohasset Rd and mess around on the logging roads up there all the time. There probably isn't too much snow up there this time of year. There's a trail listed in the guide book previously mentioned that goes through this area. I wish I had that book at that time, I had no idea that it was a through road.

There's also a lot fun trails near Strawberry Valley which is out of Oroville by the North Fork Yuba River, you'll need to wait for the snow to melt for those ones though.

I'm glad you posted your question, it reminded me that I got to go up there again soon.
