Chains
Anyone have a suggestion for a good deal for 285s?
Also, which style is better?

Re: Chains
Don't know of any deals, but we always suggest the more diamond/diagonal ones (like your photo on the right), as opposed to the single cross chains.

Re: Chains
I have the Grip 4x4 for my BFG 285's. Got them for my Jan 2008 trip to Yosemite. It's snowed a LOT that weekend but didn't need them.
Pretty easy to put them on, probably easier than cables.

Re: Chains
Check and be sure you have enough clearance with suspension pieces with chains. Sometimes you won't have enough room.

Re: Chains
If your FJC is a 4x4 and you have mud and snow rated tires you probably won't need chains.

Good point.
Unfortuantely, California law requires you carry chains in the mountain areas during the winter, even if you don't need to use them. But I have never had to put them on.
If it goes to R-3 and they want 4WDs to chain up, I turn around and go have a cup of coffee or hot chocolate somewhere.
<--That's whipped cream on top.
I figure you can either spend an hour or so putting chains on and driving X miles really slow, and then take them off. Or, enjoy the same time in a warm coffee shop and drive when the chain restrictions drop to R-2 or lower.

That would depend on how deep you get into it.
When it's higher then slider, I can go no further.

Yup, Superbowl weekend. I remember it well because I lost a bit of coin on NE tanking against NYG, listening on the ride home.
I parked on Friday afternoon and this is what it looked like on Sunday morning. That was a low of snow...
